Digifabshop seeks a Finish Manager to oversee the finish department in Albany, NY. The role ensures productive staff operations, coordinates with engineering and PM, and maintains equipment and quality control to meet ship dates. The position is on-site and non-exempt, hourly with direct reports.

The manager will manage staffing, inventory, safety protocols, and collaboration with purchasing to ensure timely fabrication of finished parts for assembly.

The Finish Manager oversees staff and operation of the finish department. The finish department operations all the company’s major finish equipment and produces finished parts for the assembly department. The top priorities of the position are to keep the finish staff always working productively on the company’s product and to coordinate the finish departments’ efforts towards meeting all scheduled ship dates.

Responsibilities

Manufacturing

• Attend engineering meeting when called to consult on finish strategies
• Review drawings for incoming jobs to understand how to prepare for and handoff work to finish staff. Consult with engineering and PAs if needed.
• Handoff new jobs the finish dept staff
• Oversee the queue of parts and material for the finish dept to ensure material is ready and available for staff when they start a new job
• Oversee delegation of work to the finish dept to control labor budgets on jobs and to limit overall indirect labor
• Serve as a point person for the department for the for the engineering, project management, and purchasing staff to prevent Finish staff being unnecessarily interrupted by office staff.
• Coordinate work priorities with the assembly manager
• Maintain the equipment inventory for the finish dept. issue and track tool checkouts
• Ensure that all Finish equipment is well maintained and kept in working order. Coordinate a preventative maintenance plan with the company’s maintenance tech
• Keep min max material floor bins stocked for the department. Restock supplies as needed from the cage in coordination with the receiving manager
• Supervise the production of finish samples for the PM staff, maintain a version control numbering system and record all finish processes and recipes
• Maintain a library of correctly labeled and approved finish samples for all projects
• Once samples are approved work with the PM dept to estimate qty of finish material needed for projects and requisition materials to purchasing on time for production
• Contact vendors to help with technical problems and challenges as they arrive
• Requisition non minmax supplies for the department

Quality Control

• Receive and inspect incoming material and parts, ensure project specs are met
• Inspect parts produced by Finish department for quality. Promote a culture of QC at the source within the department and hold staff accountable for passing on parts with quality problems
• Check jobs for completeness and proper part labeling before product is advanced to the next dept

Job Folder and ERP System

• Receive job folders from the assembly and machine manager as they are released and distribute them to the correct staff
• Upon completion of job folder complete all manufacturing operations and ensure material has been properly issued. Deliver folder to assembly manager

Staff

• All staff of the Finish dept report directly to Finish manager
• Preform annual reviews for all direct reports
• Train staff on the skills required to work in the finish dept. maintain a system of regular cross training to ensure the company has multiple staff trained on all necessary finish skills

Safety

• Always maintain clean and organized workspaces in the department
• Oversee the use of correct use of Lock Out tagging for equipment in the department
• Always be aware of safety practices in real time in the department
• Stop any unsafe behavior immediately
• Train all staff on the company’s safety standards and practices upon hiring and refresh the staff often
• Plan ahead with the staff for any material handling that could risk injuries
• Discipline any staff that ignores safety standards and practices
• Promote a culture of see something say something to all staff regarding safety

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, airborne particles, fumes, and loud noises. Employees are always required to wear P.P.E. while on the manufacturing floor.
