Job Title: Milling Machine Operator / Production Machinist

Location: Hilliard, OH

Job Summary: The Milling Machine Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and monitoring milling machines to process raw materials into finished products according to precise specifications. This role requires careful attention to detail, adherence to quality standards, and a strong commitment to safety in a manufacturing setting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Machine Setup and Operation:

    • Set up and operate various milling machines (e.g., manual, CNC) to perform operations such as shaping, grooving, profiling, drilling, and more.

    • Read and accurately interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and work orders to determine production specifications, tooling instructions, and sequences of operations.

    • Select and install appropriate cutting tools, attachments, fixtures, and other accessories.

    • Load and secure raw materials or workpieces onto machines, ensuring proper alignment.

    • Adjust machine controls to set cutting specifications, feed rates, depths of cuts, and tool positions.

    • Monitor machine operation continuously, observing for malfunctions, out-of-tolerance machining, or other issues.

    • Make necessary adjustments to machine settings to maintain optimal performance and product quality.

  • Quality Control & Inspection:

    • Inspect materials, in-process work, and finished products to detect defects and ensure conformance to specified dimensions and tolerances using precision measuring instruments (e.g., micrometers, calipers, gauges).

    • Collect samples for laboratory testing and quality assurance as required.

    • Identify and report non-conforming material immediately.

  • Maintenance & Troubleshooting:

    • Perform routine cleaning, lubrication, and preventative maintenance on milling equipment.

    • Troubleshoot minor mechanical issues and report major problems to supervision or maintenance.

    • Replace worn or dull tools as needed.

  • Safety & Documentation:

    • Strictly adhere to all health, safety regulations, and company policies, including proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

    • Maintain a clean and organized work area.

    • Accurately record production data, including quantities produced, machine settings, and quality measurements.

  • Team Collaboration:

    • Collaborate effectively with team members, supervisors, and other departments to ensure smooth workflow and meet production goals.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.

  • Previous experience operating milling machines or similar manufacturing equipment is highly preferred.

  • Basic math skills and strong reading comprehension.

  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical documents, blueprints, and precision gauges.

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills for troubleshooting.

  • Exceptional attention to detail and a results-driven approach to ensure high-quality output.

  • Legible handwriting for accurate record-keeping.

  • Physical Demands:

    • Ability to frequently lift and move up to 50 pounds.

    • Ability to stand for long periods of time, walk, bend, push, pull, and reach frequently.

    • Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment which may involve moderate noise levels and exposure to machine fluids.
