Job summary

General Mills Avon Mill is hiring for Mill Utility positions on 2nd and/or 3rd shift. Starting pay is $24.52 per hour with an additional $0.50 per hour differential for 2nd and 3rd shifts. Shifts are 8 hours long, and overtime opportunities are available after 8 hours, including weekends.

We operate 24/7 with high-volume production of flour and dry mixes. Ideal candidates have manufacturing experience, basic computer skills, and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in challenging conditions.

Qualifications

• Minimum of a high school diploma or GED.
• Experience in warehouse operations and use of WMS (preferably SAP, Blue Yonder).
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and stand for extended periods.
• Ability to work in hot, cold, noisy, wet or dusty conditions.

Responsibilities

• Clean, operate, maintain, and troubleshoot milling/process equipment.
• Perform sanitation and cleaning of mill areas.
• Support the Assistant Miller and learn processing positions.
• Execute HACCP food safety processes and documentation.
• Calibrate processing systems daily to spec.
• Assist in startup, changeover, and shutdown of equipment.
• Participate in Continuous Improvement initiatives.
• Train new employees.

At our Avon Mill, we produce 50 lb. bags of flour that are distributed to restaurants, cruise ships, hotels, schools, as well as Betty Crocker dry mix pouches. Our plant is unique in that we have two product platforms: flour and dry mixes. The flour we produce is integrated into our Betty Crocker mixes. We are a small plant with a great culture where you will get to know the people you work with. Fun facts about Avon are that we produce an average of 1.1 million pounds of flour a day and about 100 million Betty Crocker pouches a year. When making our chocolate chip cookie mix, around 2000 pounds of chocolate is added per hour to the packaging line!

Your Work Schedule and Shift Information

• 8-hour shifts
• 2nd shift: 3 pm to 11 pm
• 3rd shift: 11 pm to 7 am
• Currently hiring for 2nd and/or 3rd Shift (dependent upon business need)
• Ability and willingness to work overtime, any shift, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays, including 4 hours prior to or over scheduled shift (when needed)
• Due to high volume, this position requires ability to work 6 and/or 7-day workweeks. More information on scheduling will be provided during the interview process
• Plant operation is 24 hours a day, 7 days a week

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

As part of our manufacturing team, you will:

• Be responsible for cleaning, operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting milling/process equipment and performing milling processes
• Perform sanitation, cleaning and maintaining all areas of mill
• Assist the Assistant Miller by providing process system support, including learning the Assistant Miller role and performing processing positions and equipment operation
• Execute all required HACCP food safety processes and documentation
• Calibrate processing systems daily to meet required specifications
• Participate in startup, changeover, and shut down of operating equipment
• Participate in Continuous Improvement initiatives to increase platform performance
• Assist in training new employees

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Minimum of a high school diploma or GED
• Mechanical and/or technical experience in a manufacturing or related industry
• Experience in warehouse operations and use of WMS (preferably SAP, Blue Yonder)
• Basic computer skills with the ability to use digital tools and systems to complete daily work tasks
• Must possess the ability to understand and effectively communicate with co-workers, supervisors, and others in the workplace regarding work matters (our business is generally conducted in English)
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to stand, walk, climb, bend, push, pull, and twist for extended periods
• Willingness to work in hot, cold, noisy, wet, or dusty conditions
• Ability to climb and/or work at heights while utilizing stairs, ladders, personnel lifts, or platforms
• Ability to follow human and food safety, quality, and grooming standards
• Ability to wear such as protective clothing and equipment (Personal Protective Equipment -PPE) such as safety shoes, safety glasses, hearing protection, hard/bump cap, hair/beard net, gloves, and face masks (when required)
• Ability to work around high-speed machinery and food allergens

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Manufacturing or production experience
