Job summary

The Mennel Milling Company is seeking a Mill Operator in Logan, Ohio. The role operates and maintains production in the flour mill under the Head Miller/Shift Miller, supporting food safety programs and delivering consistent quality and service.

Shifts run 3:00pm–11:00pm and 11:00pm–7:00am with weekend and some holiday work required. Responsibilities include safety compliance, flour transfer processing, quality checks, equipment maintenance, and training of Mill Utility personnel.

Qualifications

• HS diploma or equivalent required.
• 1-3 years flour milling, food production or manufacturing experience preferred.
• Ability to pass a Respirator Fit Test and work with a respirator.

Responsibilities

• Follow safety rules and GMP/OSHA/HACCP standards and keep audit-ready conditions.
• Coordinate transfers of flour products with Head/Shift Miller per specs.
• Perform quality checks and food safety sampling during transfers.
• Assist with mill changes, operations, and routine maintenance.
• Maintain a clean, safe work area and attend training sessions.
• Train Mill Utility personnel and cover for Head/Shift Miller when absent.

SUMMARY:The purpose of this position is to operate and maintain all areas of production in the flour mill under the direction of the Head Miller/Shift Miller. In this role, you will help sustain Mennel’s tradition of excellence established in 1886 as well as support our food safety programs and mission to reliably deliver superior quality, uniformity, and service.

PRIMARY WORK SHIFT: These positions are for 3:00pm-11:00pm and 11:00pm-7:00am. You must be able to work weekends and potentially some holidays.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily with or without accommodation.

• Follow all food and personal safety rules and regulations in respect to GMP’s, OSHA, HACCP, the Global Food Safety Initiative, the US FDA Food Safety Modernization Act as stated in the FS&Q Statement, and sanitation guidelines as set forth by the company as listed in Corporate Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) and attend all required training sessions. Maintain the department/facility in an everyday audit ready condition.
• Coordinates with Head Miller/ Miller to process the transfer of all flour products per quality department and customer specifications.
• Performs quality analysis and food safety checks for flour transfers.
• Assists Head Miller/ Shift Miller with mill changes and daily operations.
• Assists with mill equipment repairs and routine maintenance, as needed/required.
• Maintains a clean and safe working environment by following SOPs and master sanitation schedule.
• Attend all training sessions, as required.
• Perform sampling and testing of wheat and water and make appropriate adjustments to wheat cleaning and tempering equipment to meet specifications and standards set by the Shift Miller.
• Assist with training of Mill Utility personnel.
• Responsible for performing the essential duties and responsibilities of the Head Miller/ Shift Miller in their absence.
• Other duties may be assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position has no supervisory duties.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required to perform this job.

• A minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• 1-3 years of flour milling, food production or manufacturing experience preferred.
• Ability to pass a Respirator Fit Test and perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the job while wearing a respirator.
• Ability to effectively prioritize and organize tasks and follow through to ensure completion of assignments in an efficient and high-quality manner.
• Must have ability to understand how materials flow through a particular process and/or a sequence of operations.
• Ability to maintain open communication with both internal and external customers.
• Knowledge of and ability to operate Microsoft office software, internet and other computer software to complete essential duties and responsibilities.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Must exhibit a high aptitude of troubleshooting and the ability to problem solve.
