Job summary

Modern Industries in Tempe, AZ is seeking a machine operator for 3rd shift (day shift) from Friday to Sunday, 5:00 AM to 5:30 PM. The role involves loading/unloading, monitoring feeds, gauges, and quality checks on machined parts, with focus on tool changes and fixture setup. Paid 36 hours for 40; includes a $4,000 sign-on bonus.

Ideal candidates have strong measurement skills, blueprint reading, SPC awareness, and the ability to adjust machine controls quickly to maintain tolerances.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• 6–10 years of experience in a manufacturing context.
• 5S training and advanced blueprint reading.
• Knowledge of SPC charts and production systems.
• Understanding of metallurgy and machine tooling.

Responsibilities

• Load, unload, start and stop machine tools.
• Monitor feeds and speeds during machining.
• Inspect gauges and indicators to ensure quality.
• Detect dull tooling and vibrations during operation.
• Measure finished parts and ensure conformance to specs.
• Set up fixtures, tools, and programs for first-run parts.

Job description

3rd shift is a day shift. Friday to Sunday. 5am-5:30pm. Work 36 hours get paid for 40.

-Sign on Bonus of $4000. You receive the 1st half after completing 30 days and the 2nd half at 60 days. -

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Loads, Unloads, Starts, and Stops Machines.
• Monitors the feeds and speeds of machines during the machining process.
• Watches gauges, dials, and other indicators to make sure machines are working properly and work-pieces meet quality standards.
• Monitors machines during operation in order to detect dull cutting tools and excessive vibration.
• Measures dimensions of finished work-pieces to ensure conformance to specifications, using precision measuring instruments, templates, and fixtures.
• Calculates and sets machine movements according to drawing specs.
• Adjusts machine feeds and speeds, changes cutting tools, and/or adjusts machine controls when automatic programming is faulty or if the machine malfunctions.
• Sets up fixtures, tools, and programs for the operation of machines for first run and repeat parts. Performs other related duties as assigned

Required Skills/Abilities:

• Knowledge of machine tools, including their uses and maintenance.
• Ability to quickly and repeatedly adjust the controls of a machine to exact positions.
• Ability to control the operations of machining equipment and systems.
• Ability to determine the type of tools and equipment needed to perform a job.
• Ability to detect machine errors (i.e. noises, vibrations, etc.).
• Ability to determine causes of operating errors and to find a solution to the problem.
• Mathematics knowledge, particularly Trigonometry.
• Understanding of Metallurgy.
• Ability to write simple programs.
• Extensive knowledge of Probe routines and machine macros.

Education and Experience:

• High School Diploma or equivalent. 6-10 years of experience in relevant field.
• 5S Training. Advanced Blueprint Reading.
• Documentation and Modern’s Production System.
• SPC Charts and Tools.
• Flow manufacturing. Geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
• Machine applications and tooling fixtures. Adjusting boring heads.
