Job summary

SA Metal Group (Pty) Ltd is seeking a Mill Controller for SA Steelworks in Cape Town, South Africa. The role supports the Rolling Mill and requires the candidate to complete a skills test; only those achieving an average of 70% will be invited for interview.

Responsibilities include maintaining production levels, managing mill machinery, scheduling maintenance, and ensuring quality control per company standards. Rotating shifts and overtime may be required.

Qualifications

• Matric with Maths and Science is required.
• Engineering studies are advantageous but not required.
• Experience in a mechanical/production environment is preferred.
• Proficiency with MS Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook).
• Ability to meet rolling production targets and work under pressure.
• Strong reporting and communication with the Mill foreman.

Responsibilities

• Ensure a consistently high level of production is achieved.
• Take responsibility for machinery within the department.
• Plan and implement cleaning & maintenance schedules on stands.
• Ensure quality control according to company standards.
• Compile detailed status feedback reports on stands and maintenance needs.
• Ensure thorough shift handover and clear issue reporting.
• Possibly work overtime to meet operational requirements.
• Adhere to OHSA and company policies.

Job Position

MILL CONTROLLER – SA STEELWORKS (Shift Position – South Africa), Airport Industria – Cape Town. Provide support to the Rolling Mill. Applicant will need to complete a skills test; only candidates with an average of 70% pass rate will be invited for a personal interview.

Responsibilities

• Ensure a consistently high level of production is achieved.
• Take responsibility for machinery within the department.
• Interpret, plan and implement cleaning & maintenance schedules on the stands.
• Ensure quality control according to company standards.
• Compile detailed status feedback reports on stands, including operation status, operation parameters, failures and possible maintenance needs.
• Ensure shift handover is conducted thoroughly and all issues are reported clearly.
• Work overtime as determined by the plant operational status.
• Abide by the regulations set out in O.H.S.A. and company policies.

Qualifications

• Matric with Maths and Science.
• Studying towards a qualification in Engineering is advantageous.
• Mechanical background with 5 years working experience in a similar environment.
• PC literate (Excel, Word, Outlook).
• Ability to meet rolling targets as per operational requirements.
• Ability to work under pressure in a demanding environment.
• Strong communication/reporting skills with ability to work closely with the Mill foreman.

Standard Hours

• 07:00 – 19:00 Dayshift
• 19:00 – 07:00 Nightshifts
• Works rotating shifts; roster detailing exact work hours will be supplied.
• May be required to work overtime as per operational requirements.
