Job summary

Mount Sinai Hospital is seeking a Milk and Formula Coordinator to organize the Milk/Formula Room, handle preparation, distribution, and inventory of human milk (donor and maternal) and specialized feedings for patients. You will ensure safe handling, accurate labeling, and coordination with nursing staff and families.

The role requires an associate degree (bachelors preferred) and may involve infant feeding technician certification.

Qualifications

• Must have an Associate’s degree or equivalent. Bachelor’s degree and/or higher academic standing preferred.
• Work experience, preferred, nutrition or food service experience a plus.
• Preferred previous nutrition education or experience working in a medical laboratory.
• Previous experience working in a milk or formula room, preferred.
• Infant feeding technician certification, preferred.
• Completion of required training and competency for formula and breast/donor milk preparation expected within 60 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Performs calculations, measurements, and conversions to appropriately prepare and fortify HM and specialty formulas with various calorie concentrations for patient feeding.
• Responsible for intake of all HM (maternal and donor milk), including documentation via barcode system and donor milk batch number, bottle number, and expiration date.
• Thaws and labels bottles of HM and ensures labeling is complete, accurate, and up-to-date per policy.
• Delivers human milk and enteral products to hospital units as requested.
• Communicates with parents/caregivers and Milk/Formula Room colleagues regarding available on-site milk supply.
• Assists with inventory management and intake of breast milk, formula, and supplies.
• Restocks supplies and formulas and answers phone calls promptly.
• Cleans work surfaces and equipment before and between preparations; sanitizes and stores bottles/parts.
• Follows aseptic technique and infection control procedures per policy.
• Stores prepared feedings in patient/unit refrigerators, monitors expiration dates, and removes expired HM or formula as indicated.
• Maintains professional demeanor and effective communication with colleagues and supervisors for continuity of care.
• Participates in department in-services and staff development programs.
