Job summary

Texas Children's Hospital in Austin is seeking a Milk Bank Technician to store, prepare and deliver mother’s milk and pasteurized donor milk to hospitalized infants. This role supports expressed milk handling, accurate labeling, and adherence to safety standards under physician orders.

Shift pattern is 8 hours per day, 5 days a week. Candidates should have a high school diploma or GED, healthcare experience is preferred, and familiarity with basic computer tasks and milk processing equipment is

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 6 months healthcare related work experience.
  • BS degree in Nutrition or Healthcare field can substitute for 6 months experience.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately weighs, measures, and prepares mother’s own and/or pasteurized donor human milk per physician’s orders.
  • Calculates quantities of milk and fortifiers based on diet orders.
  • Monitors milk preparation/storage supplies and discards expired additives.
  • Uses proper storage times and temperatures to minimize bacterial growth.
  • Rotates stored milk to minimize wastage.
  • Enters patient charges into the EPM system daily.
  • Prepares labels to identify milk for individual feedings.
  • Maintains competency to use milk prep/storage equipment.
  • Communicates with parents about collection and storage.
  • Collaborates with medical staff for feeding order clarification.
  • Notes inventory shortages or special orders with Manager.

Job description

We are searching for a Milk Bank Technician- someone to store, prepare and deliver a mother's breast milk and/or pasteurized donor human milk to hospitalized infants. To provide assistance to mothers of hospitalized infants expressing milk for their infants in a manner appropriate and as necessary.


this position will be 8hr shifts x 5 days a week

  • Ability to maintain sanitation levels, operate computers on a basic level, and operate electronic scales, analyzer and centrifuge with a higher degree of accuracy

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS


  • High School Diploma or GED

  • 6 months healthcare related work experience

RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Accurately weighs, measures, and prepares mother’s own and/or pasteurized donor human milk for infant feeding per physician’s orders

  • Calculates accurate quantities of mother’s own/pasteurized donor human milk and human milk fortifiers based on diet order

  • Monitors all needed milk preparation/storage supplies and discards expired nutritional additives

  • Uses and practices proper storage times and temperatures for human milk at all times to minimize bacterial growth and

  • according to written standards. Rotates stored milk to minimize undue wastage

  • Enters patient charges into EPM computer system on a daily basis

  • Prepares labels to accurately identify mother’s own/pasteurized donor human milk for individually prepared feedings

  • Maintains competencies required to efficiently and effectively utilize milk preparation/storage equipment and supplies

  • Communicates with parents delivering milk to the Milk Bank to ensure proper collection and storage of mother’s

  • own/pasteurized donor human milk

  • Communicates with appropriate medical/nursing personnel for needed assistance with feeding order clarification

  • Communicates inventory shortages or special-order needs to Manager as appropriate to meet patient care needs
