Air Force chaplains provide pastoral care and counseling to support the spiritual resilience of our Airmen worldwide. They serve as spiritual leaders, offering faith and personal guidance, and act as advocates for our Airmen, consulting with leadership on moral, ethical, and quality-of-life issues.

Qualifications, Education, and Training

• Required Education: Bachelor’s degree with at least 120 semester hours from an accredited institution
• Master of Divinity or equivalent theological degree with no less than 72 hours
• Pastoral Ministry Experience: Minimum of two years in religious leadership
• Denominations: Christian Protestant, Muslim, Jewish, Orthodox Christian, Roman Catholic, or other faith groups
• Must be a U.S. citizen
• Receive an Ecclesiastical Endorsement from a DoD-recognized endorser
• Meet medical and physical fitness standards
• No convictions by courts-martial or civilian courts (except minor infractions)
• No disciplinary actions for unprofessional relationships, financial irresponsibility, domestic violence, or child abuse
• Age limit: Commissioned by age 40; waivers may be available

• Officer status: Upon joining, you will be commissioned as an officer. Rank depends on education and experience.
