Job summary

The Army and Airforce Exchange Service seeks a Chaplain to provide spiritual counseling and support to Airmen. You will manage spiritual centers, conduct services, and advise leadership on ethical issues. A Bachelor's degree and Master of Divinity are required. Entry-level candidates are welcome. Your commissioned rank will align with your education and experience.

Job description

Nothing tests religious beliefs more than the situations our Airmen face throughout their service. Providing pastoral care ministry and counseling to those of faith and those of no faith, Air Force chaplains are religious ministry professionals supporting the spiritual resilience of Airmen worldwide. As spiritual leaders, chaplains are relied upon for faith and personal guidance, and also serve as advocates for Airmen, consulting with leadership on moral, ethical, and quality-of-life issues.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Managing and supporting spiritual centers on military installations globally
  2. Conducting worship services, liturgies, and rites
  3. Advising leadership on spiritual, religious, ethical, moral, morale, and quality-of-life issues
  4. Supervising and managing chapel personnel, operations, and religious programs

Qualifications, Education, and Training:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution with at least 120 semester hours
  • Master of Divinity or equivalent theological degree with no less than 72 hours from an accredited institution

Pastoral Ministry Experience:

  • Two years of leadership in religious ministry

Preferred faith groups include Christian Protestant, Muslim, Jewish, Orthodox Christian, Roman Catholic, and other faith groups.

Additional requirements:

  • Must be a U.S. citizen
  • Receive an Ecclesiastical Endorsement from a DoD-recognized endorser
  • Meet medical and physical fitness standards
  • No convictions by courts-martial or civilian courts (except minor traffic violations)
  • No disciplinary actions for unprofessional relationships, financial irresponsibility, domestic violence, or child abuse
  • Commissioned by age 40 (age waivers may be available)

Personnel Status: Officer

As a chaplain, you will be commissioned as an officer. Your rank depends on your education and experience.
