Providing pastoral care ministry and counseling to those of faith and those of no faith, Air Force chaplains support the spiritual resilience of our Airmen worldwide. As spiritual leaders, chaplains are relied upon for faith and personal guidance, and they also advocate for our Airmen, consulting with leadership on moral, ethical, and quality-of-life issues.

The responsibilities include:

• Managing and supporting spiritual centers on military installations globally
• Conducting worship services, liturgies, and rites
• Advising leadership on spiritual, religious, ethical, and moral issues
• Supervising chapel personnel, operations, and religious programs

Qualifications, Education, and Training:

• Required Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution with at least 120 semester hours. A Master of Divinity or equivalent theological degree with no less than 72 hours from an accredited institution.

Pastoral Ministry Experience:

• Minimum of two years of religious ministry leadership experience

Eligible faith groups include Christian Protestant, Muslim, Jewish, Orthodox Christian, Roman Catholic, and other faith groups.

Additional requirements:

• Must be a U.S. citizen
• Receive an Ecclesiastical Endorsement from a DoD-recognized endorser
• Meet medical and physical fitness standards
• No convictions by courts-martial or civilian courts (except minor infractions)
• No disciplinary actions for unprofessional or inappropriate relationships, financial irresponsibility, domestic violence, or child abuse
• Must be commissioned by age 40; age waivers may be available

Personnel Status: Officer — commissioned as an officer with rank based on education and experience.
