Job summary

Hendricks Behavioral Hospital in Plainfield, IN is seeking a Milieu Specialist to support the therapeutic milieu for psychiatric and chemically dependent patients. Under supervision of the CNO and Nurse Manager, you will help maintain a safe, structured environment and assist with admissions, discharges, and daily activity planning.

The role emphasizes crisis intervention, effective communication with patients and families, and training of MHTs.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of related experience with knowledge of psychiatric patient care and mental illness.
• Education in social work, recreational therapy, psychology, human services or related discipline preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide a safe, therapeutic milieu and structured daily activities.
• Assist with admissions and discharges and crisis intervention.
• Precept and train MHTs and new staff; participate in staffing and preceptor meetings.
• Communicate clearly with patients, families and colleagues; resolve conflicts with leadership.

The Milieu Specialist works under the direct supervision of the CNO and Nurse Manager in conjunction with the Milieu Manger for the physical, social, emotional, and behavioral needs of the psychiatric and/or chemically dependent patient. Promotes a therapeutic environment and participates in the total program according to the philosophy, goals and function of the hospital. Maintains treatment activities of the department in compliance with standards of practice, department and hospital policies and procedures, and regulatory standards.
