Education & Experience

Overview
The Melanoma Research Foundation (MRF) is seeking a Development Intern to support the nationwide Miles for Melanoma 5K run/walk fundraising program. This position will be responsible for assisting the Event Managers with community outreach, engagement and logistics for the Miles for Melanoma 5k program. The internship is unpaid but can be used for class credit or employment experience.
This internship will involve 10-24 hours of work per week. It is an unpaid, in-person internship based in Washington, DC, with flexible hybrid options if needed. The intern reports to the Development Manager for the Miles for Melanoma 5k team.
Core Responsibilities
Development
- Solicit in-kind donations (gift cards, products, etc.) from vendors/businesses in the community and nationwide
- Conduct community outreach to past event participants and explore new recruitment channels and strategies
- Support post-event stewardship to sponsors, vendors and top fundraisers
- Collaborate on unique concepts for driving participation and event engagement
Events
- Assist with organizing and preparing event materials, including toolkits and marketing materials
- Research event locations for local partnerships with food and beverage businesses and future event locations
- Create marketing collateral such as social media graphics, flyers and save-the-date postcards
Administrative
- Assist with event mailings and maintaining a current mailing list
- Support the team with inquiries in the email inbox, phone line, and main MRF phone line; ensure timely professional customer service
- Assist with projects related to CRM software
Requirements & Qualifications
ADA Physical Demands
- Ability to remain seated for extended periods of time
- Frequent verbal and written communication and regular use of computer, keyboard, monitor, telephone and basic office equipment
- Ability to move and handle event or program-related materials as needed
- May be required to walk or travel by car, train, or plane depending on programmatic needs
