Van Buren Intermediate School District seeks a Migrant Education Support Specialized Program Assistant to provide academic and language support for migratory students and OSY. The role requires bilingual English/Spanish communication and collaboration with teachers, staff, and families.

Qualifications

  • Education & Certification: High school diploma; paraprofessional qualifications via 60+ college credits or approved exam.
  • Three to five years’ experience with migratory students and multilingual learners preferred.
  • Fluent in English and Spanish; strong communication and collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide academic and language support under supervision of a teacher or program administrator.
  • Maintain accurate student records and service documentation; log activities and PARs.
  • Travel between service locations and provide services in school, home, migrant housing, and community settings.
  • Collaborate with teachers, administrators, counselors, recruiters and program staff to support student success.

Job Goals:

The primary goals are to provide academic, language, and educational support to eligible migratory students and Out-of-School Youth (OSY), thereby promoting educational access, engagement, and success. This position also works to reduce barriers by connecting students and families with appropriate educational opportunities, school services, and community resources.

Qualifications:

Education & Certification :

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must meet or exceed applicable Title I paraprofessional qualification requirements, which may include:
    • Completion of 60 or more college credit hours; or
    • A qualifying score on an approved paraprofessional assessment.

Work Experience :

A minimum of 3-5 years of previous experience working with migratory students and families, multilingual learners/English learners, Out-of-School Youth, or students in an educational setting preferred.

  • Bilingual Communication: Fluency in English and Spanish with the ability to communicate effectively with students, families, school staff, and community partners.
  • Interpersonal & Relationship-Building Skills: Ability to establish positive, respectful, and supportive relationships with migratory students, Out-of-School Youth (OSY), families, and school personnel.
  • Instructional Support Skills: Ability to provide individual and small-group academic and language support under the direction of a certified teacher and/or program administrator.
  • Cultural Responsiveness: Ability to work effectively and respectfully with culturally and linguistically diverse students and families and understand the unique needs of migratory populations.
  • Student & Family Advocacy: Ability to identify barriers to educational participation and connect students and families with appropriate school, educational, and community resources.
  • Flexibility & Availability: Ability and willingness to maintain a flexible work schedule based on program, student, and family needs, including evenings and weekends as needed , and to provide services in school, home, migrant housing, and community settings.
  • Independent Work & Time Management: Ability to work independently, prioritize responsibilities, manage time effectively, travel between service locations, and adjust to changing student and program needs.
  • Organization & Documentation: Ability to maintain accurate and timely student records, service documentation, activity logs, PARs, progress information, and other required program records.
  • Collaboration & Teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, administrators, counselors, recruiters, Migrant Education Program staff, and community partners to support student success.
  • Professionalism & Confidentiality: Ability to exercise sound judgment, maintain confidentiality, demonstrate professionalism, and comply with district, state, federal, and Migrant Education Program requirements.
  • Valid driver's license required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit and work on a computer for long periods of time
  • Ability to stand, bend and move up and down from the floor throughout the day
  • Ability to travel across the county
  • Ability to lift 20 pounds

Terms of Employment: As per master agreement and provisions established by the Van Buren Board of Education.
