Job description

Shift 1 (United States of America)

As a MIG Welder / Fabricator, you’ll build weldments that directly affect how Rotex, a Hillenbrand company, delivers reliable industrial separation equipment to customers who depend on consistent performance. You’ll work on‑site in Cincinnati, Ohio, where we manufacture screening and separation systems used across industrial processing environments. Your craftsmanship will help keep quality high, rework low, and deliveries on track. You’ll contribute to a shop culture built on safe work, clear standards, and continuous improvement that supports sustainable growth.

  • Shift: 1st, 8 hours, 5 days/week
  • Standard Hours: Monday – Friday 6am – 2:30pm
  • Overtime: As needed Monday – Friday 5am – 3:30pm, plus Saturdays.
  • Location: 1230 Knowlton – Cincinnati, Ohio
What You’ll Do
  • Weld ferrous metal components using Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW / MIG), Flux Cored Arc Welding (FCAW / flux‑core), and Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW / stick), following Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) to meet print and shop requirements.
  • Prep and fit joints by grinding, beveling, laying out, tack welding, and using torch cutting as needed, so parts are ready for final weld‑out with solid fit‑up and minimal distortion.
  • Fabricate structural and non‑structural weldments, including sub‑assemblies and full assemblies, working across material thicknesses from 16‑gauge through heavy plate steel.
  • Read blueprints, welding symbols, and fabrication drawings to confirm weld size, joint type, and sequence, and build to customer and engineering specifications.
  • Lay out, position, and square parts using measuring tools (calipers, combination squares, straightedges, and rulers) and hold alignment with clamps, fixtures, and jigs to keep assemblies in tolerance.
  • Perform all‑position welding (flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead) based on the job, maintaining consistent bead profile, penetration, and overall weld quality.
  • Inspect your work before and after welding using visual checks and basic inspection tools, and complete routine care on welding equipment (guns, leads, power sources, wire feeders, and grinders) to reduce downtime.
  • Other duties as assigned, including cross‑functional tasks within the fabrication department.
Team
  • You’ll work alongside welders, fabricators, and production partners in a respectful shop environment where you’ll share priorities, communicate clearly, and support consistent standards. You’ll help the team deliver safe, on‑time builds that strengthen Rotex performance and Hillenbrand’s long‑term success.
The Experience, Skills, And Abilities Needed
  • 3+ years of hands‑on welding and fabrication experience in a manufacturing, industrial, or heavy equipment environment.
  • Practical skill welding carbon steel or other ferrous materials with MIG (GMAW), flux‑core (FCAW), and stick (SMAW).
  • Welding certification from an accredited institution, and the ability to weld to a WPS.
  • Ability to read and interpret fabrication blueprints and welding symbols to complete fit‑up and weld‑out to spec.
  • Comfort with fit‑up, tack, and final weld‑out using common shop tools and equipment, including grinders, torches, clamps, fixtures, and jigs.
  • Ability to measure, lay out, and verify dimensions using basic inspection and layout tools to maintain tolerance and alignment.
  • Ability to work the posted schedule, flex for overtime as needed, and maintain safe work practices in a fabrication environment.
  • Ability to pass a pre‑hire evaluation that includes a blueprint reading/interpretation test and a hands‑on weld sample.
