Job description

Job Title: Welder/Fabricator

Department: Weld/Weld Prep/Fabrication

Business Unit: Porter Corp

Location: Holland, MI

Reports To: Fabrication Supervisor - Connor VanEenenaam

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Compensation: Hourly

Summary:

The primary purpose of this position is to fabricate and weld steel parts according to blueprint specifications. Welders are responsible for using specialized equipment to weld and assemble new metal forms.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Manufacture and fabricate finished metal products.
  2. Follow blueprints to meet product specifications.
  3. Calculate material measurements to verify specifications.
  4. Conduct tests to evaluate weld quality and tolerance.
  5. Assemble and weld structures and sub-assemblies; responsible for filing, burring, and welding.
  6. Use experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
  7. Work in a team environment to achieve quality and quantity according to customer needs.
  8. Maintain a clean and safe work space.
  9. Operate all equipment safely.
  10. Operate and maintain a MIG welder independently.
  11. Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience:

  1. High school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Experience or technical training as a structural welder capable of joining, fabricating, and welding metal tubes and pipes.

Travel:

This position requires minimal to no travel.

Computer Skills:

  • Basic computer skills.
  • Proficiency in using EPICOR ERP or similar systems.

Other Requirements:

  1. Ability to perform MIG welding on thin gauge mild steel and other weldable materials using appropriate techniques.
  2. Ability to read and understand tape measures, weld symbols, and gauges.
  3. Interpret blueprints, diagrams, or schematics to determine suitable welding processes.
  4. Fabrication skills.
  5. Ability to MIG weld.
  6. Recognition and ability to perform to AWS standards.

  1. Timeliness in completing work.
  2. Compliance with company policies.
  3. Minimize lost time.
  4. Participate in scheduling systems to ensure smooth coordination between disciplines.
  5. Reduce lead time from order to delivery.
  6. Adhere to and enforce safety policies as per Porter Corp.
