Job summary

Sonoco in Hartselle, AL is seeking a Mig Welder (Production Associate) to join our Metco Steel Reels production team. The role involves welding mild steel, reading drawings and route sheets, assembling parts, inspecting, grinding, and maintaining a clean, safe work area.

Candidates must pass a Mig welding test and lift 30-50 lbs as needed. You will collaborate with safety, quality, maintenance and management teams to meet production goals, troubleshoot issues, and train on multiple lines while

Responsibilities

• Mig Weld mild steel to form finished product; materials range from 16GA to ¼" and occasional ¾" plate.
• Read drawings and route sheets to determine job requirements.
• Inspect, grind and fit parts; maintain safe, clean 5S work area; assist other departments.
• Collaborate with safety, quality, maintenance and management to achieve production goals.
• Train on other lines and departments; perform duties as designated by supervisor/manager.

Job description

Position: Mig Welder (Production Associate)
Location: Hartselle, AL
Wage: $25.06/hour
Shift: M-F 4:00am – 2:30pm, with overtime as needed

While reporting to the shift supervisor you will work in production for our Metco Steel Reels division and be responsible for working in a quick and safe manner. Excellent attendance is crucial for the team to achieve success. You must have a proven record of success in a fast-paced environment. You must have the ability to work with various teams and have a good eye to spot defects in the packing line. You will take pride in your personal hands-on and analytical abilities, organizational skills and attention to detail.

What You'll Be Doing:

The roles performed are Mig Weld mild steel together to form the finished product. Sheet material range from 16GA – ¼" thick with occasional ¾" plate. Flat Bar 3/16" – 1 ½ thick, 3" I-Beam @ 7.5 pounds per foot, and structural tubing ranging from 1 ¼" Square – 3" x 4" Rectangle. Fitting and forming parts for welding is required in certain jobs. Inspection and grinding is also required in certain jobs. Ability to lift 30-50 pounds is required. • Has ability to work in accordance with safety and quality standards

• Ability to work collaboratively with all functions within the plant (safety, quality, maintenance & management)

• Responsible for general housekeeping (5S) of work area and department

• Mig Welding with .045 wire and perform fillet and butt joints.

• Ability to read drawings and Route Sheets to determine the proper job requirements.

• Flexible as individuals are trained on multiple jobs and weld positions.

• Collaborating closely with other departments and teams

• Having the ability to think on your feet and troubleshoot problems and situations

• Making incremental process adjustments, monitor and report quality of manufactured product

• Learn to set up new jobs, train on other lines and in other departments

• Maintaining a safe, clean and organized work area

• Performing all duties as designated by supervisor/manager

• Performing all duties in support of Sonoco's quality and safety policies

• Helping out other departments as needed

• Downtime is cleaning and straightening time
