Hourly Pay Range (Minimum - Midpoint - Maximum):
$70.010 - $90.340 - $110.660
The stated pay scale reflects the range that Sharp reasonably expects to pay for this position. The actual pay rate and pay grade for this position will be dependent on a variety of factors, including an applicant’s years of experience, unique skills and abilities, education, alignment with similar internal candidates, marketplace factors, other requirements for the position, and employer business practices.
What You Will Do
In collaboration with an Ob-Gyn Physician, this position helps manage the care of patients throughout their pregnancy. To include antepartum and postpartum care in the clinic for initial and routine obstetrical follow up and postpartum visits. In the inpatient setting, the Midwife rounds on postpartum patient, triage patients, and manage admissions, labor/induction patients and discharge patients as needed. Independently provide full scope midwifery care to childbearing women utilizing the basic philosophical tenets of midwife-led care under supervision of Ob-Gyn and/or in collaboration with.
Required Qualifications
- Master's Degree in Nursing Midwifery Specialty
- 1 Year hospital-based delivery experience.
- California Registered Nurse (RN) - CA Board of Registered Nursing
- AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Professional (AHA BLS Healthcare) - American Heart Association
- California Nurse-Midwife Certificate - CA Board of Registered Nursing
- Certified Nurse-Midwife (CNM) - American Midwifery Certification Board, Inc. (AMCB)
- California Nurse Midwife Furnishing Number (NMF) - CA Board of Registered Nursing
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) - Various-Employee provides certificate
- DEA Controlled Substance Registration - U.S. Department of Justice
- National Provider Identifier (NPI) - U.S. Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services
Preferred Qualifications
- 3 Years full scope midwifery experience.
- Moderate-risk ante-partum experience
- Out-of-hospital delivery experience.
Other Qualification Requirements
- Out of country education equivalence will be met by obtaining a California Nurse Midwife Certificate accompanied by a graduate degree in healthcare/education.

- Outcome measurements
Participates in processes to improve clinic outcomes, patient satisfaction and clinic efficiency. Measurement may include (but may not be limited to) feedback from: the collaborating/consulting physician, the Director of Maternal Fetal Medicine, Director of Women and Infant Services, CNM Program Coordinator, co-workers and patients.
Reviews policies and procedures and revises guidelines of care as needed. Presents high-risk cases to consulting/collaborating physicians needed for review for plan of care (prospective). Reviews selected charts with consulting/collaborating physician for quality review (retrospective). - Preceptor
Provides individual and/or group experiences to various health professional students in the clinic/hospital setting by acting as preceptor. Measurement may include (but may not be limited to) feedback from: the collaborating/consulting physician, the Director of Maternal Fetal Medicine, Director of Women and Infant Services, Community Clinic Directors, co-workers and patients.
Participates in and provides a minimum of two in-service programs. - Clinical Practice
Provides full scope midwifery care in the outpatient and inpatient settings to include but not limited to primary care, ante-partum, intra-partum (including deliveries), postpartum and family planning. Measurement may include (but may not be limited to) trended quality report data, direct patient information and feedback from the collaborating/consulting physician, Director of Maternal Fetal Medicine, and the Director of Women and Infant Services.
Assumes responsibility for implementation and direction on referrals/ consultation.
Coordinate patient care between medical and educational components as needed. - Training and education
Attend and participate in CPSP / PNC / APCC / OB Steering / OB Supervisory and Community Clinic meetings to facilitate coordination of care between the medical and education components.
Participates in continuing education /continuing competency programs.
Participates in professional organization(s).
Provide community education services as necessary.
Participates in community organization as representative of hospital as necessary.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Meets ACNM core competencies for basic midwifery practice, the standards for the practice of midwifery, the philosophy of ACNM and their Code of Ethics.
