Job summary

Anthropic is seeking a State and Local Affairs Lead to manage its engagement with Midwest state governments, advancing AI policy and regulation aligned with Anthropic's mission to ensure the safe deployment of transformative AI.

You will coordinate with policy leadership, legal, and communications, travel across the region, build durable relationships with legislators and local officials, and lead a regional team to align activities with company strategy.

Qualifications

• Experience in state and local government affairs, political strategy, or legislative roles with success in legislative and regulatory outcomes.
• Existing relationships with Midwest state/local leaders (legislators, governors, attorneys general, county/municipal officials).
• Understanding of state legislatures, executive branches, committees, and regulatory processes.

Responsibilities

• Serve as Anthropic's lead for state and local government affairs across the Midwest, coordinating with regional leads.
• Build and maintain relationships with state legislators, governors' offices, attorneys general, and agency leaders.
• Engage with local officials (mayors, city councils, county boards) affecting Anthropic's work.
• Track and analyze state and local legislation and regulatory proceedings; inform company strategy.
• Build partnerships with chambers of commerce, economic development groups, labor organizations, universities, and school districts.
• Represent Anthropic at legislative hearings, regional events, and public forums.
