Midwest EHS Specialist — Construction Safety Lead

Job summary

Walsh Group in the Chicagoland area seeks an experienced HSE Specialist to coordinate, implement and monitor health, safety and environmental processes across multiple project sites in the Midwest Transportation Division.

This role oversees EHS assessments, training, incident investigations, occupational hygiene, drug-free workplace programs, and coordination with subcontractors, with travel to projects as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent preferred.
• CHST certification preferred.
• Less than 3 years of experience in construction safety.
• Some travel required.
• OSHA 30 hour preferred.
• First Aid, CPR AED preferred.
• Self-motivated with leadership skills.

Responsibilities

• Periodic EHS assessments and recommended corrective actions.
• Provide training on EHS requirements to personnel.
• Coordinate subcontractor EHS protocols and work with owners.
• Conduct accident investigations and incident reporting.
• Establish hospital/clinical care facilities for each project.
• Accompany injured employees to treatment and ensure protocol adherence.
• Advise on Industrial Hygiene protocols; perform environmental monitoring.
• Administer Drug-Free Workplace policy and testing.
• Facilitate orientation of project employees to EHS practices.
• Provide weekly safety updates to EHS leadership.
• Administer SPAT process on assigned projects.
