Qualifications

• Organize and supervise a total sports program.
• Has previous successful coaching experience in the assigned sport.
• Substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of the sport and openness to new theories and procedures.
• Serve as an appropriate role model for student athletes through instructions and actions.

Responsibilities

• Has a thorough knowledge of athletic policies approved by the Smyth County School Board and ensures implementation by the staff.
• Knows current system, state, and league regulations; applies them consistently and interprets them for staff.
• Understands proper administrative line of command and routes requests or grievances through proper channels.
• Establishes fundamental philosophy, skills, and techniques with staff and participates in staff development.
• Maintains discipline, resolves grievances, and promotes morale and cooperation.
• Performs duties assigned by school administration.
• Assists with scheduling, transportation, tournament preparation, and special sport events.
• Prepares for scheduled events and coordinates with facilities and maintenance.
• Documents required forms for physical exams, parental consent, and eligibility.
• Safeguards for equipment and sites and advises on policy changes.
• Mentors athletes to develop character traits and monitors grades and conduct.
• Provides guidance during practices and travel and enforces team rules.
• Implements injury policies andEmergency procedures and completes injury paperwork.
• Handles discipline and communicates with parents when necessary.
• Manages budgeting, equipment issuance, and inventory; ensures security of facilities and equipment.
• Ensures proper labeling and storage of equipment and restricts access to authorized areas.
• Maintains locker room cleanliness and equipment upkeep.
• Promotes the sport through recruiting and media relations; maintains positive public relations with stakeholders.
