Job summary

Meramec Valley R-III School District in Missouri seeks a wrestling coach to assist in coordinating both high school and middle school programs. You will apply sound coaching techniques and organize safe, effective practice sessions to develop athletes.

The role is an extra-duty contract for the 2026-2027 school year. A valid teaching certificate and first-aid certification are required; experience as a wrestling coach is preferred.

Qualifications

• Must have valid teaching certificate.
• Four-year degree and/or DESE substitute certification.
• First-aid certification required.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the coordination of the high school and middle school programs in the assigned sport or activity.
• Use sound coaching/teaching techniques in all phases of the program.
• Organize safe and effective practice sessions.
• Adhere to an efficient and technically sound conditioning and injury prevention and treatment program.
• Adhere to the system for equipment accountability.
• Establish a working rapport with the high school head coach.
• Adhere to district and school policies regarding the athletic/activities program.
• Strive to build good sportsmanship among players, coaches, and fans.
• Model good sportsmanship and enforce sportsmanship at all times.
• Establish good public relations in the school and community.
• Assist in coaching individuals in fundamental and advanced skills to develop full potential in the sport/activity.
• Instill positive attitude towards self, event, team, and sport.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Assist in the coordination of the high school and middle school programs in the assigned sport or activity
• Use sound and acceptable coaching/teaching techniques in all phases of the program
• Organize safe and effective practice sessions
• Adhere to an efficient and technically sound conditioning and injury prevention and treatment program
• Adhere to the system for equipment accountability
• Establish a working rapport with, and is directly responsible to, the high school head coach
• Adhere to all district and school policies regarding the athletic/activities program
• Strive to build good sportsmanship among players/team members, coaches, and fans
• Model good sportsmanship and enforce sportsmanlike behavior among the players/team members/participants at all times
• Establish good public relations in the school and community
• Assist in coaching individual participants in the fundamental and advanced skills necessary to develop their full potential in the sport/activity involved
• Instill a positive attitude towards self, event, team, and sport on the part of individual players/participants
• Assist in communicating personal and program expectations to team /group and to individual players/members/participants
• Follow a firm, fair, and consistent discipline system for the team/group and for individual players/members/participants
• Follow proper procedures in handling discipline problems
• Cooperate with maintenance staff, transportation staff, and others who are involved in supporting the activities program
• Adhere to budget guidelines for the sport/activity
• Assist the head coach in working with the youth league to promote the program
• Attend clinics, workshops, and professional organizations as related to coaching area, as requested by the activities director and/or head coach
• Other duties as may be assigned
