Job summary

Nestucca Valley School District is seeking a Middle School Volleyball Coach for the upcoming season. The coach will implement the district’s athletic program, supervise student athletes and volunteers, and develop team strategy while fostering sportsmanship and academic focus.

The role requires knowledge of volleyball and OSAA guidelines, with current first-aid/CPR certification or willingness to obtain it.

Position Title: Middle School Volleyball Coach
Reports To: Athletic Director and Administration
Supervises: Student athletes and volunteers
Stipend: $2,360.00

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The middle school volleyball coach works from district, board and OSAA policies to implement the sports program. They work with other coaches and team staff and adhere to the athletic oversight guidelines and rules of conduct established by the state and school district. They are responsible for conducting practices, motivating students, and instructing student athletes in game strategies and techniques. As well as foster in each athlete physical skills, a sense of worth and competence, a knowledge and understanding of the pleasure of sports, and the principles of fair play.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Others may be assigned.

  • Adheres to the policies of the Board of Education, District building standard practices and guidelines, the OSAA and the League.
  • Attends all meetings scheduled by administration, athletic director and league.
  • Aids the athletic director in maintaining student eligibility forms, emergency data cards, and other related records.
  • Organize and direct practice activities and exercises. Develops game strategy.
  • Assesses player's skills, provides proper active supervision during all scheduled activities of players including, but not limited to, game, practice, locker room, and transportation areas.
  • Provide firm, fair, and consistent discipline. Report serious infractions of rules or other player related issues to the athletic director as soon as possible.
  • Model and promote good sportsmanship and appropriate competitive attitude of the team. Recognize good execution of the sport and work both individually and as a team to strengthen weaknesses in a positive, respectful and professional manner.
  • Practice professional conduct during events and practices. Exemplify high standards of personal conduct and habits.
  • Emphasize the importance of academic achievement of student athletes.
  • Completes an injury report within 24 hours after an athlete has been injured during practice or competitions.
  • Fosters good school-community relations by creating good communications and a positive relationship with students, parents, other members of the community, and the media.
  • Publicizes the sport and encourages student participation by personal contact.
  • Helps to ensure the proper use, care and management of facilities, as well as help oversee appropriate use and care of equipment.
  • Follow safe procedures during practices and scheduled events to prevent and provide care for injuries. Have and apply personal knowledge of emergency first aid procedures.
  • Demonstrates an understanding knowledge of current rules and regulations regarding the sport as presented by the OSAA endorsed rule book.
  • Keeps abreast of new coaching developments, innovative ideas and techniques by attendance at clinics, workshops, and reading relevant materials.
  • Ensure security of activity areas and building keys.
  • Position requires reliable and dependable attendance.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities Required
1. Ability to organize

3. Currently certified in first-aid/CPR, or willingness to gain certification.
4. Knowledge of the sport and has the ability to teach the sport to students.
5. Ability to foster positive human relations
6. Pass OSAA certifications.

Performance of this job will be evaluated by Athletic Director with assistance from district administration.
