Job Title: Teacher (ELA/ESL, Math, Science, SS)

Wage/Hour Status: Exempt-Professional

Reports to: Principal

Pay Grade: According to District’s Teacher Salary Schedule

Dept./School: Assigned Campus

Funding Source: 199 Local Funds

District Primary Purpose: To assist and promote La Joya ISD in implementing a rigorous curriculum/instructional program that supports student success and achievement.

Department Primary Purpose: To lead students toward the fulfillment of their potential for intellectual, emotional, and psychological growth and maturation.

Qualifications

Education/Certification: Bachelor’s degree from accredited university; Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements for subject and level assigned.

Experience/Knowledge: Knowledge in effective schools research, principles of accreditation standards, Texas Education Agency requirements, teaching techniques and methodology, child development process, and special needs of exceptional learners.

Responsibilities and Duties
  • Meet and instruct assigned classes in the designated locations and times.
  • Develop and maintain a conducive classroom environment within district resources.
  • Prepare for classes and provide written evidence of preparation upon supervisor request.
  • Encourage students to set and maintain classroom behavior standards.
  • Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media consistent with physical limitations and student needs.
  • Take necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Evaluate student progress regularly.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records per law, district policy, and regulation.
  • Assist in forming, upholding, and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and Board Policy.
  • Be available to students and parents for educational‑related purposes outside instructional day when required.
  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings.
  • Cooperate with staff in planning instructional goals, objectives, and methods.
  • Assist in selection of books, equipment, and instructional materials.
  • Establish and maintain professional relationships with others.
  • Maintain open communication with students and parents about academic and behavioral progress.
  • Engage in professional growth through reading workshops, seminars, conferences, and/or advanced coursework.
  • Accept responsibilities for co‑curricular activities as assigned, provided they do not interfere with primary teaching.
Working Conditions

Mental Demands: Ability to communicate effectively; interpret policy, procedures, and data. Maintain emotional control under stress. Interpret and implement TEA rules and regulations.

Physical Demands / Environmental Factors: Occasional prolonged hours, regular physical demands of stooping, lifting, and other strenuous tasks.
