Job Title: Teacher (ELA/ESL, Math, Science, SS)

Wage/Hour Status: Exempt-Professional

Reports to: Principal

Pay Grade: According to District’s Teacher Salary Schedule

Dept./School: Assigned Campus

Funding Source: 199 Local Funds

District Primary Purpose: To assist and promote La Joya ISD in implementing a rigorous curriculum/instructional program that supports student success and achievement.

Department Primary Purpose: To lead students toward the fulfillment of their potential for intellectual, emotional, and psychological growth and maturation.

Qualifications

Education/Certification: Bachelor’s degree from accredited university; Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements for subject and level assigned.

Experience/Knowledge: Knowledgeable in effective schools research, principles of accreditation standards, and Texas Education Agency requirements; teaching techniques and methodology; physical, mental and emotional child development process; special needs of exceptional learners.

Major Responsibilities and Duties
  • Meet and instruct assigned classes in the locations and times designated.
  • Develop and maintain a classroom environment conducive to effective learning within the limits of district resources.
  • Prepare for classes assigned, and provide written evidence of preparation upon request of the immediate supervisor.
  • Encourage students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
  • Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media consistent with the location and the needs of students.
  • Take precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Evaluate student progress regularly.
  • Maintain accurate records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation.
  • Assist in formulating, upholding, and enforcing school rules, regulations, and Board Policy.
  • Be available to students and parents for educational purposes outside instructional time when required.
  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings.
  • Cooperate with staff in planning instructional goals, objectives, and methods.
  • Assist in selecting books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
  • Establish and maintain professional relations with others.
  • Maintain open communication with students and parents about academic and behavioral progress.
  • Pursue professional growth through workshops, seminars, conferences, and advanced coursework.
  • Accept responsibilities for co‑curricular activities as assigned when they do not interfere with the primary teaching assignment.
