Mi Escuela Montessori in Lakeland, FL seeks a part-time (or full-time prorated) Middle School Social Studies Teacher to blend social studies with science in thematic units and to foster inquiry-based learning.
The role emphasizes collaboration across ELA, Math, Spanish and Science, with emphasis on civic engagement, primary sources, and real-world applications for adolescents.
Location:Mi Escuela Montessori | Lakeland/Bartow, FLProjected Start:Immediately Position Type:Part-time, or full-time when combined with our Science positionCourses:Civics, World History and World History HonorsCompensation:$48,500–60,000 (full-time); part-time prorated
This role is a great fit for a retired teacher who wants to stay in the classroom part-time, or for a full-time teacher who loves weaving social studies and science together into thematic units. Candidates certified, or willing to become certified, in both social studies and science may be considered for a combined full-time position.
In many traditional settings, social studies is a march of dates, names and vocabulary to memorize for a test. At Mi Escuela Montessori, we invite you to step off the stage and into the role of a collaborative teacher. Here, students don't just study history and government; they question it, debate it and practice it.
Adolescents have a deep need to understand how society works and where they fit in it. We are seeking a Social Studies Teacher who sees the classroom as a small republic and the world as a story still being written, and who wants to reclaim their professional agency from rigid, lecture-driven pacing.
You won't teach in a silo. You will collaborate with ELA, Math, Spanish and Science teachers to build immersive units where history and civic life are the lens for everything students learn.
Civics in Action:Teach the U.S. Constitution, the Bill of Rights and the structure of federal, state and local government through mock legislatures, moot court and student elections, with connections to city government and the Polk County seat in Bartow.
World History Through Primary Sources:Explore ancient civilizations, empires and the development of Western and world societies through primary documents and Socratic seminars aligned to Florida's middle school and high school World History standards.
Montessori Model United Nations:Assist in coaching students as they research countries, draft resolutions and represent their delegations at Montessori Model United Nations (MMUN) conferences, building research, public speaking and diplomacy skills.
Honors Challenge:Lead World History Honors students in document-based analysis, independent research and evidence-based writing that prepares them for advanced coursework.
Founding Documents:Partner with ELA to study the Declaration of Independence, the Federalist Papers and landmark American speeches, with a focus on the First Amendment and responsible digital citizenship.
Targeted Support:Prepare students for success on the Florida Civics End-of-Course assessment with engaging instruction, intentional intervention and enrichment.
Inclusive Advocacy:Work alongside ESE, Gifted and ESOL specialists so our neurodiverse and multilingual learners can access rigorous, grade-level content.
