Job summary

School District 27J in Brighton, CO is seeking a paraprofessional to provide direct academic and behavioral support for students with disabilities in both special education and general education classrooms, including modifications of materials and life skills instruction.

You will collect data, maintain student records, assist with personal care as delegated, implement behavior intervention plans, de-escalate when needed, and collaborate with teachers, therapists and specialists on a daily basis.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Experience working with students with social and/or emotional disabilities preferred but not required.
• Skills in crisis management, flexibility, patience and ability to maintain composure under stressful conditions.
• Valid driver's license is required to obtain a small vehicle permit, if required to transport students.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct instruction and/or academic support and supervision for students with social/emotional disabilities in accordance with their IEP in special and general education classrooms.
• Modify academic materials and/or the classroom environment under direction from the SPED teacher or Related Service Providers.
• Identify and facilitate peer relationships and natural supports (assessments).
• Follow through with prescribed behavior intervention plans throughout the school and community and during extra-curricular activities, including monitoring of lunchroom and playground safety.
• Maintain required forms and records as requested by SPED/Related Service Providers.
• De-escalate students as needed using CPI measures and following the Behavior Intervention Plan.
• Communicate observations and progress with SPED teachers and other Therapists or Specialists.
• Assist teachers with minor clerical duties as needed.
• Attend trainings and student staffings as required.
