Capital School District in Delaware is seeking a 2026-2027 Social Studies Teacher for Middle School - School of Excellence. This 10-month position emphasizes social studies instruction at grade 8 with a preference for candidates holding special education certification.

Reports to Building Principal; salary is aligned with the current teacher salary schedule. Minimum qualifications include Delaware certification for secondary Social Studies and (preferred) Exceptional Child Spec Ed certification.

Qualifications

• Meets certification requirements of the State of Delaware for secondary Social Studies.
• Meets certification requirements of the State of Delaware for special education (Exceptional Child Spec Ed K-12) - preferred.
• Strong content knowledge of secondary Social Studies and special education (preferred).
• Successful completion of PraxisII exam.
• Teacher who is designated Highly Qualified in Secondary Social Studies preferred.

Responsibilities

• Teach Social Studies to students in Grade 8. Dual certification preferred in special education.
• Works cooperatively with all staff and parents
• Plans a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students
• Prepares for classes assigned, and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate superior
• Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior
• Strives to implement by instruction and action the district's mission statement.
• Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation
• With notice and consistent with employment commitments, is available to students and parents, within reason, for educational related purposes outside the instructional day
• Performs other duties as assigned
