There are 11 LEARN Schools serving over 4,000 students in grades PK-8 across Chicago, Waukegan, North Chicago, and Washington, D.C.

About The Opportunity

The Middle School Social Studies Teacher will oversee daily classroom operations, deliver high-quality instruction, foster a supportive, community-based classroom environment, and build ongoing relationships with families, staff, and community members.

The ideal candidate has a proven success record, maintains high expectations, and embraces our Multi-Tier System of Support (MTSS) to support diverse learners and create inclusive learning environments.

What You’ll Do
  • Implement instructional programs and interventions that drive results.
  • Follow curricular guidelines and frameworks in instructional activities.
  • Use data to improve instruction and student achievement.
  • Differently instruct to meet varied academic and social needs.
  • Create a positive, supportive, community-oriented classroom environment.
  • Manage classroom effectively to foster learning.
  • Collaborate with peers to enhance instruction and meet school goals.
  • Maintain professional relationships with parents.
  • Build ongoing relationships with families, staff, and community members.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Principal.
Qualifications

This role is suitable for candidates with:

  • Professional Educator’s License (PEL) in Elementary Education.
  • Demonstrated alignment with LEARN's Core Values.
Preferred
  • Bilingual abilities.
  • At least 1 year of teaching experience.
  • Proven success in improving student academic achievement.

Working Conditions and Physical Demands

Teachers work in a busy environment, supervising children, participating in events, and maintaining classroom equipment. Physical demands include lifting up to 40 pounds, moving throughout the school, and frequent standing, bending, and walking.

Proof of COVID-19 vaccination or valid exemption is required for applicants post-11/1/21.
