Job Description

The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic teacher of both Middle School students and of the social studies subject matter, a skilled user of technology and 21st century pedagogy, an eager participant and collaborator in school life, committed to fostering positive relationships for learning, and dedicated to our core principles of character, educational vigor, diversity, and community.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Teach five sections of Middle School history and social sciences courses
  • Serve as an advisor to a group of 8-10 middle school students
  • Plan and facilitate meaningful, rigorous, level-appropriate instruction
  • Inspire students to engage in the exploration and study of history and social sciences through a combination of teaching methods and student interactions including interactive lecture, explorations, discussions, and hands-on learning
  • Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that supports students' individuality and encourages creativity, self-expression, and critical thinking skills
  • Collaborate with colleagues to enhance curricular focus and teaching strategies in order to build an inspiring and engaging program of studies
  • Demonstrate a desire for constant professional and personal growth by regularly participating in and seeking out professional learning opportunities
  • Promote school life by sponsoring student clubs and activities and serving on academic committees

Requirements
  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree in History, Social Sciences, or a related field is required: an advanced degree is preferred
  • Minimum of three years of social studies teaching experience at the middle school level: additional experience teaching secondary school preferred
  • Proven record of ability to teach students with diverse learning needs
  • Ability to navigate sensitive conversations with families and other stakeholders
