Position Details: Available as a part-time or full-time role, with preference for full-time

given to candidates who can also teach in another subject area, such as Jewish studies,

humanities, or math.

Job Summary and Scope of Responsibility:

Bernard Zell Anshe Emet Day School seeks a warm, passionate, and inspiring educator to

serve as a Middle School Science Teacher and Grade-Level Advisor. The ideal candidate

will love working with fifth through eighth grade students and have experience with design

thinking, experiential and embodied learning, inquiry- and problem-based learning, and

progressive STEM education. A desire to instill students with an excitement for learning and

a love for science is essential. Experience with teaching technology and math through

inquiry is also welcomed.

The candidate must have strong interpersonal skills inclusive of written and oral

communication skills, and be a collaborative team player. Additionally, the candidate should

be passionate about supporting and strengthening the diversity of science, technology,

engineering, and outdoor education curriculum, and inspiring lifelong science learning.

This position entails being an Advisor on one of the four middle school advising teams. The

Bernard Zell Advisory program strives to foster students’ social and emotional growth and

well-being, supporting them both in and out of the classroom, and inspiring in them a

commitment to meaningful service learning. Experience with Responsive Classroom is

preferred.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Teach Science to middle school students, maintaining high expectations and a commitment to supporting students of all levels
  • Use formative and summative assessments to monitor and evaluate student progress
  • Give specific feedback to young scientists and innovators to support their growth
  • Develop and implement curriculum as a member of a collaborative middle school science team
  • Work on an advisory team, planning advisory learning and creating a safe, nurturing environment for students
  • Advise and advocate for a group of middle school students, with responsibility for academic/social/emotional oversight
  • Communicate regularly and effectively with parents and others on the student and grade-level team
  • Help lead service learning through the advisory program
  • Support and reflect school values
  • Collaborate with colleagues to support the mission of the school

Qualifications and Skills:

Education:

Bachelor’s Degree (or above) in an area of science required

Master's in education or a related field preferred

Experience:

  • 5+ years experience preferred
  • Experience with middle school-aged children and an understanding of adolescent development
  • Experience in writing science curriculum
  • Experience integrating technology, specifically microcomputing, gaming and coding, engineering, and mathematics into the science curriculum
  • Background in executive functioning skills and habits of learning that create successful lifelong learners
  • Experience teaching Jewish studies, humanities, or math is welcome

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to embed Jewish values, Bernard Zell’s mission, and Israel in the science program.
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Flexibility, patience, and a sense of humor
  • Strong technology skills, including proficiency with educational technologies
  • including Google Apps, iPad, Chromebook, and others
  • Knowledge of Responsive Classroom Practices
  • Deep Knowledge of child development and developmentally appropriate practice
  • Knowledge and mastery of the most up-to-date practices and pedagogies.
  • Willingness to learn and grow as an educator.

Salary Range:

PT: $24,517.50 - $42,128. FT: $49,035 - $84,256.

Preference for full-time employment given to candidates who can also teach in another

subject area, ideally Jewish studies, humanities, or math.
