General Summary:
Under the general supervision of the Middle School Head and the leadership of the Science Department Chair, the Middle School Science Teacher is responsible for the instructional program, general operations, and management of their assigned classes within the Science Department. This position is responsible for building on the academic foundations established at earlier grade levels by developing lesson plans following a sequential curriculum. Among the requirements of this position is advising students and providing independent learning exercises, materials, and methods that consider the individual child's needs and the whole-group dynamic.
Essential Duties:The successful candidate will be expected to fulfill the following responsibilities:
Teaching and InstructionTeach assigned classes with professionalism, clarity, and effective classroom management.
Implement and redesign when needed, engaging the science curriculum with the school's mission, values, and academic standards.
Create a classroom environment that promotes diversity, inclusion, and a strong sense of belonging.
Assess student progress, strengths, and areas for growth through a variety of formative and summative tools.
Grade assignments and exams thoughtfully, encouraging student growth, confidence, and accountability.
Collaborate with colleagues to develop curriculum and refine instructional practices.
Establish and maintain open, supportive communication with students and families.
Foster collegial and professional relationships with fellow faculty, staff, and community partners to support student success.
Demonstrate a growth mindset and actively pursue professional learning and development.
Support and uphold School policies, expectations, and values.
Complete administrative tasks and reports in a timely and professional manner.
Support the work of the head of school and leadership team to contribute to the broader mission of the School.
Supervise students to ensure a safe, respectful, and healthy school environment.
Monitor students outside the classroom during lunch, study hall, and transitions.
Participate in school events and community life, including conferences, retreats, field trips, performances, and faculty meetings.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in teaching or a related field is required. A master's degree or higher preferred. Must possess a minimum of two years of teaching experience.
