Position Purpose

Under the general supervision of the school principal(s) to develop students' skills and competence in computer science. Providing instruction on computer programming utilizing multiple computer languages (Python & Java primarily).

Under the general supervision of the school principal(s) to develop students' skills and competence in computer science. Providing instruction on computer programming utilizing multiple computer languages (Python & Java primarily).

Essential Functions

  • Develops and administers computer science curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives.
  • Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction and student learning.
  • Develops lesson plans and utilizes instructional materials for subject area, and translates lesson plans into learning experiences to develop pertinent sequential assignments, challenge students, and effectively utilize the available instructional time.
  • Support students with identifying and resolving computer and mobile application software/hardware technical issues.
  • Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning and progress, modifies instructional methods to fit individual student's needs and conducts individual and small group instruction as needed.
  • Implements district curriculum and assessments.
  • Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, professional development, workshops or department/district meetings, and/or by conducting research.
  • Keeps accurate and complete records regarding grading and attendance as required by district/building procedures/policies.
  • Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents/guardians.
  • Ensures that student behavior conforms to the school's standards and school/district policies, and establishes and maintains standards of student conduct needed to achieve an effective learning environment.
  • Coordinates with other professional staff members, participates in faculty meetings, and serves on appropriate committees.
  • Selects and requisitions appropriate learning materials/instructional tools consistent with district curriculum.

Additional Duties

  • Performs other related tasks as assigned by the principal(s).

Travel Requirements

  • Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

  • Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiated instruction based on student learning styles.
  • Past PLTW teaching experiencing and certifications preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to organize and coordinate work.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students and their parents/guardians.
  • Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others.
  • Experience using and providing instruction on a variety of technology systems including: laptops, desktops, tablets, interactive whiteboards, productivity applications, Web 2.0, file servers, Mac OS X, Windows 10, etc.
  • Must be highly organized, flexible, and able to manage multiple unrelated tasks simultaneously
  • Coding experience desirable

Qualifications

  • Middle School Missouri Teacher Certificate
  • Project Lead The Way training (District will pay for PLTW training)
  • Preferred PLTW certifications: Computer Science Essentials, Computer Science Principles, Cybersecurity, Computer Science A.

Education

  • Bachelors or Masters Degree from an accredited college or university.

FLSA Status: Exempt

Candidates that have signed a contract for the 2025-26 school year need to check with their district prior to applying to ensure they can be released from their contract if they are recommended for the position.
