The SBC Executive Committee seeks a Middle School Minister to plan and execute a comprehensive student discipleship program for grades 6–8, coordinating with adjacent ministry leaders to support spiritual development. You will lead evangelism, Bible study, and missions education while guiding youth camps, trips, and weekly programming.

You will work closely with pastors, engage students at local events, and help assimilate young believers into the church body.

Job Description

MIDDLE SCHOOL MINISTER

Principal Functions:

The Middle School Minister is responsible for planning and executing a comprehensive disciple making program for students, providing leadership to growing young disciples—grades six through eighth—while interfacing with adjacent high school and young adult, children’s, adult, and senior adult ministry leaders to support a continuum of spiritual development.

Responsibilities:

• Actively assess, plan, and lead evangelism initiatives consistent with making student disciples.
• Actively create opportunities for student Christian education, providing direction, leadership, and teaching of Student Bible study, discipleship training, missions education, Wednesday programming and other activities.
• Promote a culture of student ministry that helps young believers assimilate into the larger church body.
• Promote a culture of student ministry that promotes spiritual maturity.
• Organize and coordinate a balanced approach to student ministry that includes Bible study, discipleship training, outreach, recreation, fellowship, mission action, and worship.
• Plan and direct all activities such as youth camp, student mission trips, retreats, weekday youth service, youth emphasis Sunday, seminars, banquets, and other special events alongside the High School Minister.
• Active involvement with students at their local sporting/school events.
• Support the pastor in visiting hospitals, nursing homes, etc.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Senior Pastor and Senior Associate Pastor.

Requirements – Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

• College degree; some seminary preferred.
• Ability to work with students and their parents
• Ability to recruit and lead volunteers.
• Ability to listen effectively and to communicate clearly, both orally and in written form.
• Exceptional speaking skills and the ability to speak confidently before groups.
• Has quality relational and leadership skills.
• Possesses a team mentality in working with and relating to colleagues.
• Has exceptional administrative skills.
• Has basic ability to use computer software consistent with student leadership.
• Possesses a commitment to biblical Christian principles and The Baptist Faith and Message 2000 both professionally and personally.

• Requires passing criminal, financial and sexual misconduct background checks along with a drug test.
• Requires compliance with applicable federal and state laws as described in the church constitution.
• Requires the ability to steward the respective ministry budget financially.

Working Relationships:

The Middle School Ministry Director reports directly to the Senior Associate Pastor and supervises the Student Ministries Intern &/or Assistant alongside the High School Minister.
