Job summary

Zeta Charter Schools is seeking a Middle School Math Curriculum Writer Consultant for a 12-month, project-based engagement. The role focuses on designing and delivering rigorous, engaging, and culturally responsive math curricula for middle school, aligning with New York State standards and Zeta’s academic vision.

The consultant role is offered as a 1099 independent contractor engagement with immediate start. Remote or in-person collaboration will be arranged by project needs and lead.

Qualifications

• Design high-quality, standards-aligned math curricula for middle school (math subjects: algebra, geometry, statistics)
• Minimum of three years of experience designing and/or teaching secondary math instruction
• Knowledge of culturally responsive pedagogy and inquiry-based learning approaches

Responsibilities

• Design full-course curricula for middle school math including scope and sequence, unit plans, and daily lessons
• Develop student-facing lessons, problem sets, labs, projects, and real-world applications
• Create high-quality homework, formative and summative assessments with clear success criteria
• Ensure alignment to New York State standards and Zeta’s academic vision
• Collaborate with academic leaders and curriculum writers to ensure cross-course coherence
• Iterate curriculum materials using feedback from educators and student performance data

To achieve our vision, we are searching for a Middle School Math Curriculum Writer Consultant with a Bachelor's degree, Master's degree preferred, and at least three years of experience designing and/or teaching high-quality secondary math instruction, with a proven record of developing rigorous, engaging, and culturally responsive curriculum.

Project Scope & Responsibilities

• Design full-course curricula for middle school science subjects (e.g., Statistics, Geometry, Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1) including scope and sequence, unit plans, and daily lesson plans
• Develop high-quality instructional materials, including:
  • Student-facing lessons and problem sets
  • Labs, projects, and real-world applications
  • High-quality homework aligned with the course
  • Formative and summative assessments with clear success criteria
• Ensure alignment to New York State standards and Zeta's academic vision and outcomes
• Embed inquiry-based learning, conceptual understanding, and opportunities for analytical thinking and problem-solving
• Design assessments that measure both content mastery and application of skills
• Collaborate closely with academic leaders, instructional coaches, and other curriculum writers to ensure coherence across courses and grade levels
• Use feedback from educators and student performance data to iterate and improve curriculum materials

Engagement & Compensation

We are hiring for a 12 month project-based consulting role with an immediate start date. If selected, this role would be offered as a 1099 independent contractor engagement and would not constitute an offer of employment.

• Compensation: Between $15,000 and $25,000 per project unit (depending on experience and project scope)
• Consultants are responsible for their own taxes; consultants are not eligible for Zeta benefit plans.
• Work schedule is flexible; deliverables and deadlines will be agreed upon with the designated project lead.
