Job summary

Zeta Charter Schools is seeking a Middle School Math Curriculum Writer Consultant to develop engaging, standards-aligned curricula for NY state standards and beyond. You will design scope, sequences, units, daily lessons, and assessments for middle school math courses, aiming for rigorous, equitable instruction.

The role is a 12-month, project-based consulting engagement (1099). Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s preferred; minimum three years’ experience designing or teaching secondary math,

Responsibilities

• Embed inquiry-based learning and analytical thinking.
• Collaborate with academic leaders and other writers to ensure coherence.
• Iterate materials based on educator feedback and data.

Our Network office is located at 401 W. 218th St., New York, NY 10034. Consultants will collaborate remotely or in-person as agreed upon based on project needs.

To achieve our vision, we are searching for a Middle School Math Curriculum Writer Consultant with a Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree preferred, and at least three years of experiencedesigning and/or teaching high-quality secondary math instruction, with a proven record of developing rigorous, engaging, and culturally responsive curriculum.

Project Scope & Responsibilities:

• Design full-course curricula for middle school science subjects (e.g., Statistics, Geometry, Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1) including scope and sequence, unit plans, and daily lesson plans
• Develop high-quality instructional materials, including:
  • Student-facing lessons and problem sets
  • Labs, projects, and real-world applications
  • High-quality homework aligned with the course
  • Formative and summative assessments with clear success criteria
• Ensure alignment to New York State standards and Zeta’s academic vision and outcomes
• Embed inquiry-based learning, conceptual understanding, and opportunities for analytical thinking and problem-solving
• Design assessments that measure both content mastery and application of skills
• Collaborate closely with academic leaders, instructional coaches, and other curriculum writers to ensure coherence across courses and grade levels
• Use feedback from educators and student performance data to iterate and improve curriculum materials

Engagement & Compensation

We are hiring for a 12 month project-based consulting role with an immediate start date. If selected, this role would be offered as a 1099 independent contractor engagement and would not constitute an offer of employment.

• Compensation: Between $15,000 and $25,000 per project unit (depending on experience and project scope)
• Consultants are responsible for their own taxes; consultants are not eligible for Zeta benefit plans.
• Work schedule is flexible; deliverables and deadlines will be agreed upon with the designated project lead.
