Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School in Rockville, MD seeks an outstanding middle school Hebrew language educator for the 2026-2027 school year.

The program follows the ACTFL proficiency model and emphasizes student-centered learning. Ideal candidates have 3+ years teaching Hebrew as a second language, familiarity with proficiency-based instruction, and a passion for engaging students with authentic Hebrew texts and culture.

• BA in Hebrew language, education, or comparable certification; MA preferred but not required.
• At least two years of successful teaching experience in Hebrew as a second language.
• Experience in collaborative working environments, ideally in middle/high school.
• Experience in differentiated instruction, project-based learning, Collaborative Problem Solving, student-centered instruction.
• Fluency with technology required.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Responsabilidades

• Teach Hebrew language and culture to grades 6-8, identify authentic texts, plan lessons and units.
• Participate in team meetings to review curriculum and discuss student progress.
• Be present for advisory, academic flex block, breaks, and experiential education courses.
• Collaborate within the Upper School Hebrew department and middle school faculty.
• Teach a weekly advisory or experiential education course.
• Other duties as assigned.

Smith Jewish Day School in Rockville, MD is seeking an outstanding middle school Hebrew language educator to join our Middle School faculty for the 2026-2027 school year. Our Hebrew program is based on the proficiency model guided by the ACTFL standards for second language instruction.Successful candidates will have at least three years of demonstrated success teaching Hebrew as a second language to middle school students and will have familiarity and experience with teaching the proficiency model. The ideal candidate is passionate and charismatic and uses a student-centered approach to teaching. They are experienced in effective methods of assessment of second language skills, and are familiar with recognized standards of language instruction, with ACTFL standards. Candidates demonstrate a willingness to participate fully in the life of a vibrant school community and have demonstrated success in working collaboratively as part of a team. **Salary range for this position ranges from $51,306 to $104,331.****Responsibilities:*** Teach Hebrew language and culture to students in grades 6-8, including identifying appropriate authentic texts, lesson planning and unit planning;* Participate in team meetings to review curriculum and discuss student progress;* Be present for duties that include advisory, academic flex block, breaks, and other experiential education courses;* Work collaboratively within the Upper School Hebrew department and middle school faculty;* Teach a weekly advisory or other experiential education course;* Other duties as assigned.## Qualifications* The candidate must possess a BA in Hebrew language, education, or comparable certification; MA preferred but not required.* Candidates should have at least two years of successful teaching experience in either formal or informal education settings.* Experience with collaborative working environments, ideally in a middle and/or high school setting.* Experience in differentiated instruction, project-based learning, Collaborative Problem Solving, student-centered instruction and working with students with diverse learning needs preferred.
