Lake County School District Region 1 LCHS - Leadville, Colorado is seeking a Middle School Head Nordic Coach for Lake County High School. This part-time role covers 10–20 hours per week, primarily in the afternoons, with travel for meets during the season.

The position requires equipment management, skiing instruction, safety emphasis, and supervision of meets and travel. Coaching youth with middle school athletes is preferred; certifications must be completed.

Qualifications

Estimated time commitment: 10-20 hours per week, depending on the part of the season (the official season is December through the end of February)

Detailed description of duties/responsibilities:

  • Responsible for distribution and collection of equipment and uniforms
  • Instruct in skiing skills and technique at afternoon weekday practices
  • Keep safety a priority in all activities
  • Supervise athletes at meets and on the bus traveling to and from those events
  • Available to work afternoons, evenings and weekends, and be willing to travel with the team to different locations for meets
  • Communicate clearly and positively with parents and athletes
  • Complete the coach certifications required by the school district

Special qualifications, if any:

  • Background and experience with nordic skiing, preferred
  • Experience coaching or working with youth, especially with middle school athletes, preferred

  • Must possess leadership skills, and be able to set an example for athletes
  • Excellent communication skills in order to inspire athletes and work with them on improvement.

  • Ability to learn and upgrade job skills in order to meet changing demands of the position.
  • Ability to react well under pressure, handle and balance multiple demands at one time, work with frequent interruptions, and perform duties and tasks at expected levels of professionalism.
  • Knowledge of and ability to perform duties in full compliance with all district, Board of Education, state and federal laws, methods, requirements, policies, procedures, and activities pertinent to the duties of this position.
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
  • Ability to use independent judgment and demonstrates initiative to act without being asked.
