Job Overview
The Teacher Middle School Head Choir Director will plan and implement an instructional program for the campus beginner, intermediate, and advanced choirs. The incumbent will coordinate, supervise, and manage all aspects of the campus choir program. The incumbent will fulfill professional responsibilities related to teaching middle school choir courses and managing the instructional program. Prolonged or irregular work hours are required.

Position Description

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Teaching and Learning

  • Develop, implement, monitor, and maintain progress with group and individual instruction, rehearsals, and performances for Level 1-3 middle school choirs.
  • Plan appropriate learning activities including determination of appropriate type and level of materials and implement an instructional program that provides an appropriate learning sequence, considering different learning styles and a range of abilities.
  • Assess student achievement as related to desired educational goals and outcomes and maintain appropriate assessment documentation for institutional and individual reporting purposes.
  • Manage allotted learning time to maximize student achievement.
  • Manage the behavior of learners in the instructional setting to ensure the environment is conducive to the learning process; assist and participate in management of student behavior in all parts of the school, center, school grounds, or work site both during and outside of school hours; monitor and enforce compliance with the Fort Bend ISD Student/Parent Handbook and Student Code of Conduct.
  • Ensure classroom and/or instructional environment is attractive, healthful, safe, and conducive to learning and that materials are accessible to students and in good condition.

Program Management

  • Assign, supervise, and coordinate job responsibilities of instructional assistants within the program.
  • Implement sectional, small group, and large ensemble instruction in the fall and spring semester to provide adequate preparation for all concerts, competitions, auditions, and events.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor a public relations program that will keep the public aware of the accomplishments and events involving students in the instructional program.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor a recruitment, audition, and placement program/schedule for all potential students.
  • Comply with established FBISD policies and procedures regarding fundraising, budget management, inventory and materials management, student travel, employee travel, private lessons, and the submission of entry forms and fees by prescribed deadlines.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by campus administration or the Assistant Director of Fine Arts or the Director of Fine Arts.

Professional Responsibilities

  • Ensure standards of professional conduct are maintained (Code of Ethics and Standard Practices for Texas Educators).
  • Understand and uphold all rules, regulations, and dates that pertain to the choral music program (UIL, TMEA, and FBISD policies all apply).
  • Participate in all UIL, TMEA and FBISD sponsored events; encourage student participation in all competitions/events related to the instructional program.
  • Provide proper student supervision during and after all program activities until all students have left the area.
  • Participate in in-service, professional learning activities, and staff meetings as required or assigned, including meetings with the Director of Fine Arts and the Assistant Director of Fine Arts.
  • Support and assist feeder programs by attending concerts/programs and offering reasonable assistance to these programs.

  • Bachelor's degree in Music Education or Music Performance with emphasis in vocal/choral music upon hire.
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Valid Teaching Certification Issued by Texas Education Agency appropriate to subject and grade level of assignment EC-12 Music upon hire.
  • Minimum of 3 years of Full-time teaching experience preferred.
  • Effective oral and written communications skills, including the ability to use social media effectively.
  • Demonstrated proficiency as a vocalist as well as the ability to play warm ups and vocal parts in rehearsal.
  • Ability to interact appropriately with the public, District staff, and parents.
  • Ability to collaborate with colleagues on the campus and in the instructional feeder pattern.
  • Ability to market the instructional program.

Work involves everyday risks and discomforts which require normal safety precautions when operating equipment or performing job duties. May work prolonged or irregular hours and must be able to maintain emotional control under stress.
