Washington Montessori School is seeking a Girls Basketball Coach for its Middle School (Grades 6–8) for the 2026–27 winter season, December 2 through March 4. This role suits someone who loves the game, enjoys working with young athletes, and cares about both skill development and character.
Plan and run practices that build fundamental skills, teamwork, and game understanding.
Coach all scheduled games, home and away.
Motivate student-athletes in line with the school's athletic philosophy and mission.
Model and teach sportsmanship, respect, and a positive team culture.
Communicate with the Athletic Director about schedules, rosters, and any concerns.
Keep practices and games safe, supervised, and inclusive for all players.
Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday, 3:15–5:00 pm
Some practices run until 5:30 pm, and some away games return late.
All games fall on these days. No weekends.
Basketball playing and/or coaching experience, ideally at the youth or middle school level.
Ability to create a calm, safe, and positive environment for student-athletes.
Reliable, punctual, and a strong communicator.
Successful completion of a background check.
Alignment with the school's Montessori values and a commitment to student-centered athletics.
Preferred: a Connecticut "A" endorsement, or willingness to get one, so you can drive the team to away games.
The stipend is $1,800 for the season. Coaches with an "A" endorsement receive $2,000.
