At Mastery, we’re on a mission to provide all students with the academic and personal skills they need to succeed after graduation and pursue their dreams. Student achievement is not just a goal for our organization; it's the reason we exist, and every member of our team is dedicated to securing student success. We are also committed to pursuing equity, actively disrupting systemic racism, and addressing the disparities that limit our students' choices.

Our culture is built on respect, service, and the belief that the success of our students, their families, and the communities we serve will help us achieve our mission. We foster a positive, open, and inclusive environment where honesty, humor, and continuous improvement are celebrated.

Join us in creating a model urban school district that serves all students with excellence. Together, we can make a lasting impact.

This role is eligible for a $5,000 bonus as well as up to $5,000 for relocation expenses!

New teachers start at $60,000, with Mastery offering up to $82,000 based on experience and education. Salaries range from $60,000 to $111,000, with growth opportunities as your career progresses.

The Opportunity:

As an English Teacher at Mastery, you will work with your students to foster their development in critical thinking, questioning, critiquing, and understanding the written word. You will play a vital role in addressing the literacy gap in the United States by providing students with a world-class education that prepares them for success beyond high school.

We value your passion for reading and writing and your commitment to high standards for all learners. Ideally, you have familiarity with structured literacy instruction and are eager to teach the foundational skills of strong reading and writing. You and your students will engage with a robust core curriculum aligned to grade-level standards, emphasizing the science of reading, with dedicated time for rigorous reading and writing activities. You should also be prepared to lead intervention courses to support students' unfinished learning, ensuring they meet grade-level and graduation requirements.

At Mastery, we emphasize Continuous Improvement, offering coaching and feedback through assistant principals, central-office coaches, and school-based content teams. Professional development and peer collaboration are integral parts of our staff calendar.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Commit to ongoing professional development in the spirit of continuous improvement
  • Develop and implement rigorous and appropriate lesson plans, assignments, and assessments in collaboration with school leadership and curricular resources
  • Analyze student assessment data to measure progress and inform instruction
  • Collaborate with grade-level teams to discuss student work, share best practices, and plan engaging activities
  • Engage families through regular communication and relationship building
  • Demonstrate genuine interest and care for students’ personal and academic success
  • Commit to self-reflection, professional growth, and receptiveness to feedback
Education, Experience, and Skills:
  • Bachelor’s degree required with evidence of personal, professional, or academic achievement
  • Teacher certification - completed or in process
  • Expertise in English language arts
  • Experience working with underserved communities
  • High expectations and motivation to drive student achievement
  • Ability to motivate and support students in a standards-driven classroom
  • Positive mindset and commitment to excellence
  • Resilience and solutions-oriented approach to challenges
  • Outstanding instructional skills driven by data and engaging strategies
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to perform essential duties, including traveling between campuses, standing, walking, sitting, speaking clearly, and working with technology and materials as needed

Mastery's Benefits Package:

We offer a comprehensive benefits package, including a 403(b) retirement plan with a 5% match for PA employees, enrollment in the NJ Pension Plan, an Employee Assistance Program, mental health services, a Professional Development Fund, discounts at various retailers, and a Benefits VIP Helpdesk. See all our Benefits offerings here.

Annual Calendar:
