Job Summary:

Middle school teachers help students learn more deeply into subjects introduced in elementary school and expose them to more information about the world. They specialize in specific subjects, such as English, Spanish, mathematics, history, or biology, and may also teach career-oriented subjects. Teachers work with students from varied backgrounds and design classroom presentations to meet students’ needs. They plan, evaluate, and assign lessons, prepare and grade tests, maintain classroom discipline, and meet with parents and school staff to discuss students’ progress.

Essential Duties:
  1. Making knowledge accessible to all students
  2. Developing student’s cognitive capacity and respect for learning
  3. Fostering students’ self-esteem, motivation, and sense of civic responsibility
  4. Using 21st-century tools to enhance students’ skills
  5. Volunteering time to be on a school-wide committee
  6. Performing metal detector searches to help ensure school safety
  7. Attending Special Education and 504 meetings
  8. Participating in education conferences and workshops
  9. Using MAP Testing Data to facilitate instruction
  10. Meeting regular and predictable attendance requirements
  11. Planning for and guiding the learning process to help students achieve program objectives
  12. Maintaining a classroom atmosphere conducive to learning
  13. Implementing useful diagnostic and progress assessment measures
  14. Selecting and using effective instructional methods and learning materials
  15. Establishing a cooperative relationship with all assigned students
  16. Maintaining open lines of communication with parents/guardians
  17. Engaging in professional growth activities
  18. Working collaboratively to achieve the overall purposes of the school mission
