Job summary

Battle Creek Public Schools is seeking a Middle School English/Language Arts teacher to develop long-range and daily instructional plans at Springfield Middle School. The ideal candidate will foster a safe, engaging learning environment and collaborate with staff to meet diverse student needs.

The district offers a starting salary of $51,500 with benefits, chronic professional development, mentoring, and housing incentives up to $20,000 for home purchases plus $4,500 in rental assistance;

Position Responsibilities

• Develops, maintains, and actualizeslongrange and daily instructional plans.
• Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students and provides a learning climate for the students.
• Assume responsibility for the safety, conduct and health of the students under his/her supervision.
• Ensure physical upkeep of the classroom and equipment is maintained.
• Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and, in harmony with the goals, establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects and the like to communicate these objectives to students.
• Assesses the accomplishmentsof students on a regular basis, provides progress reports as required and communicates with parents as deemed necessary.
• Employ a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
• Strive to implement by instruction and action the district's philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.
• Serves on building and district committees that develop curriculum and enhance instruction.
• Maintains and updates accurate records pertaining to student attendances, assessments, reports cards, and documents as required by the Board of Education using the prescribed formats.

Qualifications

• Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with a BX, BA, or BQendorsement required.
• Experience teaching in an urban school district preferred.

Salary: $51,500 - $87,883 (Potential for additional stipends)

Contract: 188 Days (10 Months)
