Job summary

Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Parish seeks a dedicated Middle School Long-Term Substitute Teacher for grades 6–8, starting November 2026. The role covers Literature, Writing, Mathematics, Bible Study, and Integrated Humanities, requiring adaptability across subjects and a structured classroom environment.

The candidate will plan and deliver instruction, follow the curriculum, differentiate learning, assess student progress, and communicate with families.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent educational preparation.
• Ability to work effectively with students in grades 6–8.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong classroom management and organizational skills.
• Ability to teach across multiple academic disciplines.
• Ability to follow established curriculum while adjusting instruction to meet student needs.
• Commitment to maintaining a safe, respectful, orderly, and academically challenging classroom.
• Preferred: Teaching license, substitute authorization, or progress toward state certification.
• Preferred: Experience teaching multiple subjects and in Catholic/Christian school settings.

Responsibilities

• Plan, prepare, and deliver daily instruction for students in grades 6–8.
• Follow established curriculum, unit plans, pacing guides, and school academic expectations.
• Teach Literature, guiding close reading, analysis, discussion, and interpretation of texts.
• Teach Writing, including organization, grammar, revision, evidence-based writing, and the writing process.
• Teach Mathematics with clear instruction, guided and independent practice, and assessment.
• Lead Bible Study, explaining Sacred Scripture and its context.
• Teach Integrated Humanities linking literature, history, geography, culture, religion, art, and civilization.
• Differentiate instruction to meet diverse student needs.
• Provide additional support or enrichment when appropriate.
• Assign, collect, grade, and provide feedback on student work.
• Maintain accurate records of assignments, assessments, grades, and progress.
• Communicate academic expectations to students clearly.
• Maintain consistent routines, procedures, and behavioral expectations.
• Create a respectful, responsible, curious classroom conducive to productive discussion.
• Communicate with parents/guardians about progress or concerns.
• Collaborate with colleagues and administrators; participate in meetings and professional development.
• Supervise students during arrival, dismissal, lunch, study hall, Mass, assemblies, etc.
• Uphold school policies, procedures, mission, and professional standards.
