Job description

Department Overview:

Madison School & Community Recreation (MSCR) is Madison’s public recreation provider. MSCR offers a wide variety of athletic, recreational, arts and enrichment activities and classes for all ages in an accessible, inclusive setting. Programs include swimming instruction, MSCR on the Move, arts & enrichment classes, youth summer camps, sports camps & clinics, adult & 50+ fitness, adult sport leagues including pickleball, softball and tennis, and a wide variety of outdoor pursuits including paddling sports, pontoon trips, camping, orienteering and challenge courses.

As a department of the Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD), MSCR also provides afterschool enrichment activities, clubs and sports as well as summer programming in Madison elementary, middle and high schools, Allied Learning Center and Meadowood Neighborhood Center. Afterschool clubs and sports include: arts & enrichment, homework/academic clubs, drama, dance, skiing, soccer, basketball, volleyball, cross country and much more!

Anticipated Hours Per Week: Minimum: 40 Maximum:

Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8.5hr shift between hours of 8:00am -4:30pm, with an unpaid 30 minute lunch.

Salary/Wage Range: Minimum: $16.00 Maximum: $17.75

Qualifications:

  1. Minimum Qualifications:
  • 18 years or older.
  • Experience working or volunteering with youth (childcare, camps, etc).
  • Reliable transportation to work site.
  • Ability to make necessary accommodations for individuals with disabilities.
  • Readiness to actively participate in all aspects of the program (including swimming and active games).
  • Preferred Qualifications:
    • Proven dependability and teamwork.
    • Effective problem solving and risk management skills.
    • Ability to communicate effectively, and exercise good judgment, courtesy, and tact when dealing with children, their parents/guardians, and the public.
    • Experience supporting individuals with disabilities and/or experience with inclusive recreation programming.
    • Experience providing behavioral modifications and support.
    • CPR and First Aid certification.
    • Crisis Management and Intervention Training, Managing Threatening Confrontations training, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training or the like.

    Position Summary/Job Duties:

    Job Description & Duties:

    1. Assist with the inclusion of youth with disabilities (Autism Spectrum Disorders, Emotional and Behavioral Disorders, Intellectual Disabilities, etc.) in inclusive summer programs and recreational activities.
    2. Provide reasonable accommodations and direct support to individuals with disabilities, including using strategies such as visual supports, activity modifications, reinforcement systems, and adapted equipment.
    3. Plan, lead, and/or supervise activities indoors and outdoors.
    4. Collaborate with program staff to ensure active participation of all participants.
    5. Communicate with parents and supervisors.
    6. Attend professional development workshops to develop skills.

    Program Dates: Mandatory paid training June 9 and June 13-20, 2025 (no training June 19). Programs run June 23 – August 15th, 2025. No camp Friday, July 4.

    • Camp Adventure (outdoors) – Westmorland Park 4 weeks (4114 Tokay Blvd, Madison), Demetral Park 4 weeks (601 N 6th St, Madison)
    • Wide World of Sports – Cherokee Middle School: 4301 Cherokee Dr, Madison
