West Ottawa Public Schools seeks a Middle School Boys Dive Coach to lead the diving program at Harbor Lights & Macatawa Bay Middle Schools. Reports to the Athletic Director and Varsity Swim Coach, with a starting period from 01/05/2027 to 03/05/2027.

The role emphasizes coaching excellence, safety, and adherence to school policies. Ideal candidates will have diving coaching knowledge, CPR/AED and concussion protocol credentials, and must be available after school and on Saturdays.

Responsibilities

  • Attends athletic department meetings when scheduled.
  • Submits an annual inventory of athletic uniforms and equipment used by the team.
  • Maintains professional competency by attending clinics.
  • Keeps the Athletic Director informed of any problems before, during, or after events.
  • Encourages athletes to excel in academic work.
  • Submits End of Season Checklist in a timely manner.
  • Issues, cleans, stores, and returns all athletic equipment.
  • Oversees safety conditions during practice.
  • Enforces rules and reports incidents to the Athletic Director.
  • Establishes relationships with players, parents, and administrators.
  • Attends practices, games, and meetings punctually.
  • Maintains professional conduct with players, opponents, officials, and fans.
  • Teaches skills for highest possible achievement.
  • Plans each practice session ahead of time.
  • Submits rosters, forms, and training rule forms signed by parents.
  • Is a positive role model.
  • Adheres to MHSAA and Board policies and regulations.
  • Maintains attendance and medical emergency cards.
  • Promotes participation and improves methods, techniques, and endurance.
  • Submits criteria for cutting athletes.

Responsibilities:

  • Submits an End of the Season Checklist in a timely manner.
  • Issues, cleans, stores, cares and returns all athletic equipment.
  • Oversees the safety conditions of the area when team members are practicing.
  • Enforces disciplined behavior, code of fair play, and establishes standards. Reports all incidents to the Athletic Director.
  • Establishes an effective relationship with players, parents, and administrators.
  • Attends practices, games, and meetings punctually.
  • Uses professional conduct, language, and decorum with players, opponents, officials, and fans.
  • Works with the athletic director to maintain player eligibility information.
  • Teaches individual participants in the skills necessary for the highest possible achievement in the sport involved.
  • Each practice session is planned out ahead of time.
  • Submits necessary rosters, physical forms, eligibility list forms, and training rule forms signed by the parents.
  • Is a positive role model.
  • Adheres to those rules and regulations as detailed by the MHSAA and Board of Education policies and regulations.
  • Maintains team attendance records and medical emergency cards.
  • Works to promote increased participation to improve methods, techniques, strength and endurance both in and out of season.
  • Submits written criteria for "cutting" athletes at tryouts.
  • Displays self-control and maintains a positive profile with officials.
  • Provides supervision of locker room and training room.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
  • Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
  • Lifting: Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position to position. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires the substantial use of the upper extremities and back muscles.
  • Grasping: Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.
  • Talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken work; those activities where detailed or import spoken instructions must be conveyed to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly.
  • Hearing: Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction, and having the ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and making fine discriminations in sound.
  • Repetitive motions: Making substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
  • The worker is subject to environmental conditions.
  • The worker should provide consistent and reliable in-person attendance
