Job description

Middle School Athletic Coach

At Children’s Day School, what you learn and who you become are equally important.

Children’s Day School (CDS) is a welcoming community in the big city, a farm and garden among urban streets, an advocate for change and uplifting progressive values, an independent school with down-to-earth values, and an institution that is always asking how we can do this better.

We strive for balance, so students become both academically successful and grounded. They leave CDS confident, with the humility to listen and the resolve to speak up for what they see as right.

CDS is a co-educational preschool through eighth-grade school serving over 450 students in the Mission Dolores neighborhood of San Francisco with two campuses, two sheep, and lovely people.

To learn more about CDS, visit our website at www.cds-sf.org.

CDS is seeking enthusiastic and positive coaches to join our Middle School Athletics Program throughout the 2026 – 2027 school year. We are looking for individuals who are passionate about working with middle school students and helping young athletes grow both on and off the field or court.

Our athletics program includes the following sports:

  • Cross Country (Fall)
  • Volleyball (Fall)
  • Basketball (Winter)
  • Futsal (Spring)

A CDS coach is committed to the personal growth and development of student-athletes. In addition to teaching sport-specific skills and strategies, our coaches foster teamwork, confidence, resilience, leadership, sportsmanship, and a lifelong love of physical activity. Coaches play an important role in creating an inclusive, positive, and supportive environment where every student feels valued and challenged.

Time Commitment

Most coaching positions require two after-school commitments per week, typically consisting of one practice and one game, or two practices depending on the league schedule.

Practice & Game Schedule

  • Afternoon Practice: Approximately 3:30 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.

  • Away Games: Typically a two-hour commitment between 3:30 p. m. – 6:30 p.m.
  • Practice days are determined by the league schedule and coach availability.

Practices and home contests are held near Children's Day School, while away competitions take place at neighboring independent and public schools throughout San Francisco.

Each sport consists of a regular season schedule with opportunities for league playoffs and championship competition.
