Job summary

Birch Agency in Milwaukee, Wisconsin is seeking an Educational Sign Language Interpreter to support middle school students (grades 6–8) during the 2026–2027 school year. This full-time, in-person position offers the chance to enhance student access to instruction and meaningful participation in class.

The interpreter will provide ASL interpretation throughout the school day, collaborate with teachers and staff, and uphold professional standards, confidentiality, and ethical practices.

Qualifications

• Educational Interpreter certification required.
• Previous school-based interpreting experience required.
• Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL).
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
• Commitment to supporting student access and inclusion within the educational environment.

Responsibilities

• Provide sign language interpreting services for middle school students (grades 6–8) throughout the school day.
• Facilitate effective communication between students who are deaf or hard of hearing and their teachers, peers, and school staff.
• Interpret classroom instruction, school activities, meetings, and other educational interactions.
• Collaborate with teachers, special education staff, and administrators to support student success.
• Maintain professional standards, confidentiality, and ethical practices.
