Middle Markets Underwriter (Mid-Senior - Senior)

We are committed to building a team of dedicated Middle Market leaders and underwriters who understand the industry deeply and can navigate its unique challenges. We are hiring in our New York City market for an experienced Middle Markets Underwriter at the Mid-Senior or Senior level. In this role, you will serve as a customer advocate, focusing on enhancing the customer experience by understanding their risks and providing comprehensive insurance solutions.

What to Expect in an Underwriting Role in Middle Markets at Zurich:

• Develop and maintain relationships with brokers, partners, and customers across various industries to support business objectives.
• Utilize your underwriting expertise to assess risks, evaluate exposures, and set pricing to maintain a profitable portfolio of new and renewal business.
• Collaborate across departments including claims, finance, risk engineering, actuarial, and technical underwriting to deepen industry knowledge.
• Use your technical skills, negotiation abilities, and interpersonal skills to grow relationships with preferred distribution partners in your territory.

This role will be filled at either the Mid-Senior or Senior level. The appropriate level will be determined based on the candidate's experience and skills.

Basic Qualifications:

Mid-Senior Level:

• High School Diploma or Equivalent with 3+ years of underwriting or market-facing experience, or
• High School Diploma or Equivalent with 6+ years of claims or underwriting support experience, or
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree and 1+ years of relevant experience, or
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree and 4+ years in claims or underwriting support, plus knowledge of business lines and regulations, and experience with Microsoft Office.

Senior Level:

• High School Diploma or Equivalent with 5+ years of underwriting or market-facing experience, or
• High School Diploma or Equivalent with 10+ years of claims or underwriting support experience, or
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree and 3+ years of relevant experience, or
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree and 8+ years of claims or underwriting support experience, plus knowledge of Microsoft Office and experience working under time constraints and in team environments.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree
• Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office

At Zurich, compensation varies based on factors like location, role, skills, and experience. The total salary range for this position is $94,000 to $170,000, with specific ranges for Mid-Senior ($94,000 - $139,000) and Senior ($120,000 - $170,000) levels, including bonus eligibility.
