Middle Market Financial Institutions Underwriter (Mid-Senior or Senior)

Zurich Middle Markets has delivered double-digit growth over the last four years, and we aim to continue this trend. We are assembling a team of experienced Middle Market leaders and underwriters who understand the industry segments and customer needs.

We are hiring an experienced Financial Institutions Underwriter at the Mid-Senior or Senior level in our NYC Office. You will serve as a customer advocate, focusing on understanding risks and providing end-to-end solutions for Middle Markets Financial Institutions insurance needs.

This is a hybrid position with two days per week in the New York office.

Responsibilities include:

• Developing and maintaining relationships with brokers, partners, and customers across industries.
• Leveraging underwriting expertise in risk assessment, exposure evaluation, and pricing to maintain a profitable book of business.
• Collaborating across departments such as claims, finance, risk engineering, and actuary.
• Using technical and interpersonal skills to grow relationships with distribution partners.

The role will be filled at either Mid-Senior or Senior level, based on experience and skills.

Basic Qualifications:

Mid-Senior Level:

• High School Diploma + 3+ years in underwriting or market-facing roles, or
• High School Diploma + 6+ years in claims or underwriting support, or
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice + Associate Degree + 1+ years in underwriting or market-facing roles, or
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice + Associate Degree + 4+ years in claims or underwriting support, and
• Knowledge of lines of business and regulations, experience with Microsoft Office.

Senior Level:

• High School Diploma + 5+ years in underwriting or market-facing roles, or
• High School Diploma + 10+ years in claims or underwriting support, or
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice + Associate Degree + 3+ years in underwriting or market-facing roles, or
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice + Associate Degree + 8+ years in claims or underwriting support, and
• Microsoft Office experience, ability to work under time constraints, team experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree
• Private Equity Middle Markets Underwriting experience in the Northeast
• Risk assessment and negotiation skills
• Strong broker relationships
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
• Knowledge of underwriting regulations and software skills
• CPCU and ARM certifications are a plus.

Salary ranges from $94,000 to $170,000, depending on experience and level. The starting range for Mid-Senior is $94,000–$139,000, and for Senior is $120,000–$170,000.
